I can’t thank the team at Malmaison enough for arranging a superb evening to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. Every detail was as we wanted, from the table arrangements, bar setup through to the dietary requirement of our guests.

The food and service on the evening was second to none and the team not only looked after the adult guests perfectly but also the younger kids who loved the evening too.

It was a superb evening which we will remember for a very long time.

We chose Malmaison for this treat as their menu, though more expensive than most, offered a slightly different twist on a standard afternoon tea. We booked for two at 12.30 pm and arrived just a couple of minutes early. We were greeted by a waiter who checked our reservation, gave us a choice of seats and took our order for hot beverages. These could be refilled at any time at no charge. A few minutes later our waitress arrived and introduced herself. She also asked us if we were comfortable with her addressing us by our first names. We were perfectly happy with this but she was at pains to point out that if we preferred a more formal approach she was happy with that too. We ordered the standard afternoon tea and waited while enjoying the view of Newcastle quayside. When the afternoon tea arrived we were not disappointed as it was exactly as described in the menu. Instead of the usual finger sandwiches the savoury selection consisted of a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, a mini beef burger with dressing and pickles and a beetroot and goats cheese wrap. The wrap itself was coloured red to match the beetroot filling. The sweets were a mini éclair, a chocolate brownie, a piece of carrot cake, some salted chocolate mousse and a mixed berry milkshake. To finish there was a choice of fruit or plain scones. The savoury selection was very tasty and well cooked. The burger was cooked rare and was beautiful. The sweets were all exceptional and were very light not stodgy. The scones too were light and fluffy. All in all a delightful experience and well worth the extra cost.

The Brasserie at Malmaison Newcastle provided a great night for our family get together. The food was very good - a wide selection on offer for everyone - and our choices were all enjoyed by those around the table - plates cleared. The service was also very good, and our server, Adam, did a great job in looking after us all night, he did a really great job. If you are staying at the hotel I would thoroughly recommend the winter prix fixe menu as great value for money. The wine was also well priced with a good range.
