Description: Our award-winning Restaurant (two AA Rosettes) is based on simple but firm principles. We start with the best ingredients we can find, preferably local (some from the hotel garden), and we believe taste is more important than style. Our Head Chef, Michael Penaluna, and his team, make it their business to get to know our suppliers, then use their skills to produce dishes that enhance rather than confuse the flavours. Classic techniques but a contemporary approach to produce Modern British dishes that are light, fresh, flavoursome. Whether you fancy our breakfast which is bigger, tastier and healthier than ever, great value Lunch Menu, House Menu Dinner Menu, you'll find an atmosphere that's warm, relaxed and friendly. Our Restaurant has two dining areas: the former music room with earthy tones and fun splashes or orange and the light and leafy Garden Room with its summer terrace.

We were staying at hotel in the New House in one of the suits, very lovely. We went down to the restaurant for the 5 course tasting menu was great. Quite substantial portions so we didn't need the cheese course! The wine was slightly on the pricey side, we went for a white to pair with the meal for £35. The waiter was polite and friendly. He explained the courses, one just put the dishes down and left but our waiter returned to tell us what it was which was nice. The fish course and venison was divine. The dessert 'panna cotta' wasn't really a panna cotta, ice cream on what seemed to be muesli but none the less, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The first course of peas and asparagus was ok, nothing exciting. We would definitely return.

Attentive service with superb ambience , a nice place to eat.

Three courses for £26 , all of which very good with a decent choice. Drinks pricey with a bottle of wine at £35 but you know that when you book.

On a par with 21. Very happy with value for money.

I was very disappointed with the afternoon tea experience at Jesmond Dene House. We were first ushered to a table which was surrounded by large tables of families eating Sunday lunch- bearing in mind this was 5pm in the afternoon. The last thing I wanted was to be surrounded by the smell of roast meat whilst eating afternoon tea so asked to be moved. We were then taken to a table in the lounge which was much better but was then joined by a diner eating burger and chips! We were then left for 20 mins before anyone came to take our order. A table of ladies walked out as they had been waiting so long only then to be confronted by a very rude member of staff. It was far too busy -staff running round but seemingly doing nothing-very difficult to catch anyone's eye to order extra tea or if we had a problem. Staff kept their distance to the point where we had to go and find someone to help us! One girl seemed to be just walking backwards and forwards! The food was ok -nothing to write home about-I've certainly eaten much better fare in the area. If you would like to experience a serene afternoon tea with delicious food try somewhere else-maybe Matfen Hall or Wynyard Hall. Don't go to Jesmond Dene House.

If you want a special treat look no further than Jesmond Dene House for afternoon tea, the garden room has views over the grounds, service was excellent, food lovely and the champagne afternoon tea is highly recommended, more pricey than some but worth it for a special occasion, would definitely visit again

My sister and I went here for afternoon tea and what treat it was. Three different sandwiches, ham, cheese and smoked salmon. We then had three small scones each, plain cheese and fruit with clotte4d cream and two jams (raspberry and strawberry) followed by 4 small sweets. They were lemon cake, brownie, mouse in a shot glass and an almond meringue. Like many others there we were quite full and took some of our cakes home. A lovely building within gorgeous surrounds within Jesmond Dene. There were crisp white napkins and tablecloths. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant. I would recommend this place for an afternoon tea treat. Although you can also stay overnight at this establishment, we did not. This is an ideal place for a wedding party or similar.
