Decided to dine here as had been disappointed with food offered by the nearby hotel at which we were staying. Having eaten here before, albeit several years ago, we hoped it would still be as good. It was. Not the most comprehensive menu but suited us. We had non-conventional combinations of Caesers Salad/Prawn Cocktail with the Lamb Rogan Josh, mushroom fried rice and keema naan. It was really well cooked and delicious and filling. Well done.

We dined here as Gourmet Society members, attracted by this description on their website of the restaurant: 'Overlooking the river Avon on one side and rolling meadows the other, the Kavi restaurant is situated idyllically in the depths of Warwickshire countryside. It radiates an understated luxurious vibe for those who are keen to try some bold fusion Indian cuisine.'

Well, I am sure the River Avon and idyllic Warwickshire countryside was somewhere, but mostly what you see is unkempt lawns and flower beds through the floor to ceiling Windows, tatty paving and fences/outbuildings that are in need of repair and a coat of paint! (See my photos.)

Such a shame, because someone once went to some trouble to design and furnish this restaurant and create something different from your standard Indian experience.but 'bold fusion Indian Cuisine? I don't think so!

And sadly, the food didn't really have a chance, as the ambience was dire! In the background was a noise of some indeterminate kind of music, trying to compete with the air con. Our arrival led is from the car park to the restaurant entrance that was surrounded by scrap metal, was locked and the lobby filled with a stack of chairs and a cardboard box! This meant we had to walk right round to the front of the hotel, then back through boring corridors to where we had started! We announced our arrival and booking reference, which seemed irrelevant as the staff had no idea about the Gourmet Society offer, didn't acknowledge our booking or offer a welcome, though management did eventually confirm the offer.

Sure, the food was OK and served by friendly waiting staff, but the menu contained none of the special items advertised on the website and was really bog-standard Indian fare served with little panache, and in rather sterile surroundings.

Over the years, these premises have changed hands regularly. Indeed, the entrance still boasts the previous Paparazzi restaurant.Based on our experience, it may soon see further change!

Granted the hotel is a little threadbare, and the service can be more than a little random at times, but... Go on an evening when you're sure the Indian menu is available, and it'll be worth the occasional frustration - the jeera rice and chicken jalfrezi are particularly good.

There were a number of things that went wrong with our visit to Kavi restaurant. Here are some of the ones that bothered me more:
1. We called to book a table about an hour before going over and yet the staff decided that a good time to tell us that they are not offering the Indian part of their menu was when we sat down at the table. This was especially inconvenient since that was the reason we went there.
2. They brought over the wrong wine and the waiter seemed to completely ignore me saying that that wasn't what I ordered. Curiously, the right wine was on the bill in the end.
3. Both the garlic bread and the pizza that we ordered were burned.
4. The Veggie lasagna came as a completely shapeless blob covered in tomato sauce. The blob did seem to have the lasagna ingredients in it and also included a 1.5 inch stick of wood... Really not sure what the later was doing there.
So overall, a disappointing experience and I wouldn't go back.
