This was a great find but a bit quirky. We had found too many “gastro” pubs in the area which were not worthy of the title so actually finding a chef who can cook a bit was a triumph. We eagerly awaited our meal after the amuse bouche. We had the goats cheese and tomato starter and the selection of fish. These were excellent but the extra small tomatoes were too much, in my view, and overpowered the goats cheese.

The main courses we chose were pork and lamb. The pork dish was thoroughly enjoyed by my husband but the lamb was a bit limp and the fat wasn’t overly tasty or crispy. The vegetables were but they were not particularly refined. Just lumps of vegetable. We thought the choice of deserts was great but my Millefuille was disappointing as the elderflower “mousse” was solid. Husband enjoyed his chocolate.

This restaurant isn’t expensive by London standards but the cooking could do with a few faults being ironed out. The service was excellent and could not be faulted. At less than £50 a Head, with wine, this is reasonable.

However, please get rid of the apricot paint! The blue curtain is also awful as are the poorly fitted brass ceiling lights. Black table cloths never do it for me either. One thing made the restaurant stand out. The newsletter. What a critique of local planning regulations and policies. They also think a “3” for cooking from the Good Food Guide is mean. It isn’t. They also aspire to a Michelin Star! Which rather makes me want to suggest they should get out more - to Michelin starred restaurants!

We have eaten here quite often. The restaurant is comfortable and the food colourful and tasty. Fish always very fresh and perfectly cooked. Service is lovely and overall value is very good. Its our favourite in Chichester.

The cooking here is reliable and imaginative, above its mere listing in the Michelin Guide - presumably the inspectors find something to deny them a star, but it is hard to work out what. There is an excellent wine list with some less expensive wines as well as quality and friendly efficient service. Although fine dining it is at the lower end of the price range for such.

What can I say, fantastic meal, Michelin quality food at sensible prices. Service was excellent, although busy never felt we waited for anything. Looking forward to returning soon.
