Owner description: Salisbury Museum is based in the Grade 1 listed building, The King's House, just opposite the west front of Salisbury Cathedral. It houses a significant archaeological collection relating to nearby Stonehenge, as well as costume, fine art (including Turner watercolours) and ceramics. Our new Wessex Gallery dedicated to the archaeology of south Wiltshire has just opened.

You might think £8 a bit much for a local museum but Salisbury is anything but a small town bolthole. The museum has only a few exhibitions but that is because each exhibition has a multitude of pieces and things to see...draws to pull out...

Well worth the money. Will take about an hour if you do it right.

Staff are extremely helpful

Nice cafe

If you are visiting Salisbury, or if you live locally, a visit to the Wessex Gallery will reveal the story of South Wiltshire. It's a great exhibition, dont miss it!

Brilliant exhibits- especially the bronze/ iron age exhibits. Staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and extremely interesting to talk to. An amazingly positive experience.

Very helpful staff, but rather stressed woman in the coffee shop! I think she had no one to assist her.

We visited this lovely museum today after spending the morning at Stonehenge and it was well worth the visit. We specifically visited the museum to see the Amesbury Archer as my daughter and I had just read a book about him. If it hadn't been for the book, we would never have known the museum existed and it's a real find.

The staff were incredibly helpful (particular thanks to Keith today for his really helpful explanations) and the museum is well worth the entrance fee if you love history and archaeology. We only spent an hour and a half in the museum but only because we are learning about the Stone and Bronze Ages at the moment, we will definitely be back when we move onto the next periods of history as we could have easily spent another two hours here.

We love museums that are interactive and there is plenty for children to get involved with here.

I honestly cannot recommend this museum enough, it was a complete pleasure to visit - thank you.
