We have stayed several times at the Novotel Cardiff and always been satisfied previously. Although this time we felt the room (210) felt tired, heavily stained carpet, cracked mirror lights in bathroom, dirty shower screen, dusty and dirty on the bedside lights, and most disappointing was the bath, the water wouldn’t drain away and took a very long time to drain bringing scum up out of the plug hole. When having a shower the plug hold scum and dirt floated around in a pool around your feet. We did mention this to reception and we were told ‘very sorry but they were fully booked and no other rooms available’. It was our first night away with our 8 month old baby so who has already fallen asleep on the bed.

Breakfast was fine, dairy free milk available, staff lovely and helpful and reasonable choice.

We used the pool which was nice and warm, although the floors under the lockers were bitty and dirty.

Overall a ok stay but considering COVID-19 I had hoped that the rooms would have felt cleaner.

Rooms were a good size and definitely a win with a pool for the kids. Reception helpful. The bar manager and bar staff were fantastic, always accommodating with our large group of 10, chatted with us and the kids and made the weekend great for us! The food for lunch and dinner was also great. Would stay again and recommend to other families.

During latest visit to this Hotel ( out of many previous visits) I feel that standards have dropped tremendously, and we as a family aren’t totally convinced it’s anytime do with pandemic as the staff were great and numerous!
It’s the first time we have stayed in the wing facing the city on the top floor room 509 and how Claustrophobic it felt upon first entry!
The shower was tiny and water flowed between hot and cold intermittently!
Room facilities very basic with no sockets by beds for phone charging etc!
ASI mentioned staff were great when we asked for a fan and taxis etc they arrived within minutes!
Breakfast was average at the very best with very minimal choices and what seemed very poor quality and cheap ingredients throughout!
The toaster for example was a basic domestic 6 slicer which didn’t even work very well!
I feel that this hotel has dropped standards which is a shame as location and vibe is very good on the whole!
We didn’t even use leisure facilities as ‘youngest’ had a bit of a cold and time was limited!
We will be sure to consider other hotels in Cardiff during next visit in the spring!

Very disappointing. Started by having to return to reception as key card didn’t work. No apology on having to return to reception.
After paying £400 for 2rooms we retuned to find bar closed at 10pm. Is this really provision of a 4 star hotel? They also refused to sell us a bottle of wine. 10 is a very early night for a group of friends that have not been together for a long time. Very disappointing end to our evening. Don’t advertise having a hotel bar if you do open for bar times, I don’t consider this a 4 star hotel

Would give zero if it was there. Checked in went out for dinner came back. No hot water. No protectors on bed or pillows. No phone in room. Dirty bathroom. Brought the manager up to our room showing our displeasure. CHECKED OUT. The photos on the website must be from years ago nothing like what is being advertised. Please do not stay here false advertising!!!!!!
