Spent a night here on the Local Lockdown Deal where you can have afternoon tea or dinner bed & breakfast. And it was fab!
The hotel has clearly put a lot of thought into making the experience COVID secure and have executed their plans really well.
We chose the afternoon tea option and it was excellent. Really tasty sandwiches, gorgeous sausage rolls and nice scones, welsh cakes and deserts. I was gutted I couldn’t finish it all!
We also spent a couple of hours in the bar for a few drinks and the ordering via the QR code menu was simple and easy to use.
The rooms were very spacious and bed as a super king size was huge. Cleanliness and sanitisation was clearly top of their minds with labels on lots of items confirming they had been cleaned and the TV remote came in it’s own little bag to give you confidence.
Breakfast was well organised and the options for both continental and cooked breakfast were plentiful and a new experience to be served your food a bit like an American School canteen.
However of most note are the staff, they were super friendly and efficient making sure that guests felt both welcome and secure. They are clearly dealing with our current circumstances incredibly well and a credit to the hotel, great job!

I booked this hotel because I wanted to use the spa.

When I arrived at the hotel, I was surprised that the door has to be pulled open. I’m very wary of touching handles at the moment. I didn’t have to wait long to be checked in. Check in was quick and simple. The receptionist even booked a table for dinner for me. A lot has been done with Covid and social distancing.

My room was on the 3rd floor. The hotel is quite big and I lost my way. Fortunately there was someone who worked there told me the quickest way to go. The room was absolutely lovely. It has everything you need. Lots of storage and hanging space. Very big, what makes it so airy were the very high ceilings and the window is huge. I booked a city hall view room but you can’t see it because of the trees. It’s nice looking at the trees though. There was air conditioning and it works well. You couldn’t open the window for obvious reasons and it wasn’t stuffy in there. I love to open a window for fresh air, but I didn’t feel claustrophobic. The bed is huge and the pillows are extra comfy. I had 3 great tonight’s sleep.

I had dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was good l everyone was very friendly. I didn’t eat breakfast there as it was £10. Far too expensive.

I booked a treatment before I arrived and I booked to use the hot tub and swimming pool. The spa area is absolutely lovely, everyone was so friendly. The swimming pool is fabulous. The water was quite warm and very clean. I used the hot tub, the water in there was very warm, it’s so relaxing but don’t go back in the pool after you’ve been in the hot tub, as the water will be freezing. I had a full body massage. The lady who did it was so lovely and she did the best treatment. I was so relaxed afterwards, I didn’t want it to end. I also had my legs waxed the next day. The lady who did it for me was very nice and we chatted a bit. While I was there, I booked another slot for the swimming pool.

I loved my stay at the Park Plaza and will definitely be back. It’s so convenient to the centre and there are bus stops outside if you want to go further afield. The road outside the castle is closed at the moment, it’s lovely to walk around the centre without worrying about the traffic.

One tip for parking in the NCP car park opposite. Download the park pass app, it will save you a fortune.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our room was overlooking the bus terminal at the front of the hotel this didn’t bother us and we had no noise from it either still very quiet.
The room itself was nice spacious and clean.
The location of the hotel was great a 2 minute walk from all the shops bars and restaurants.
We went to the pool while we were there again lovely and clean you do have to book a slot at reception.
Now the hotel doesn’t have parking it’s self but there is a NCP right over the road. It’s very pricey if you don’t plan ahead. Luckily I read about it before coming. If you book 24hrs before it’s £5 for 24hrs so all in all the parking cost us £15 for the whole 3 days we were there. If you don’t book ahead it’s £28 for 24hrs so massive difference and even with the hotel’s discount you can’t get it cheaper than if you book 24hrs before.

My wife and I spent a long weekend staying here and would definitely return.

The hotel is clean, friendly and has a good gym and fair sized swimming pool. (20m). Our room was overlooking a small river and some trees to the rear of the hotel which made it very quiet. Note though that the front overlooks a main bus terminus so I can't comment on how quite all the rooms are.

Ideally located on the edge of the town center between the shops, castle and cultural quarter almost everything is with easy walking distance.

We risked the hotel restaurant on the last night and were very pleasantly surprised. Excellent food, drinks and service. I'll post a separate review of the Laguna.

Parking opposite the hotel is quite pricy at £28/day but reception can validate your ticket when you're ready to leave for a 25% discount.

Room tip: Request a room at the back overlooking the trees and river

I stayed at the Park Plaza whilst on a course in Cardiff. The staff are really friendly, helpful and professional. I felt safe, valued and well looked after. The food is really good, room service fab. Breakfast was tasty and service excellent. Bar and restaurant are elegantly decorated and have an upmarket yet approachable feel. The terrace is lovely - nice to have the option to sit and eat/drink outside, surrounded by trees. I didn’t use the spa or gym, but I saw the pool, which is visible from the end of the terrace, and it looked really nice.
My executive room, 403, was large, high ceilings, lovely bathroom. View of trees and not overlooked at all. Welcome gifts of snacks and drinks, and gown and slippers. Bed huge and really comfy. I slept really well both nights.
Parking at the NCP just across the road is very close but expensive (over night was £21 with discount from hotel), but this is no different from any other city hotel.
I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it.
