We booked a Junior Suite in the hotel and when we booked in we were given the key to the room, we then went to the room and dicovered they had allocated us a normal room.
We then went back to conciege and told them we would not accept the room. After some investigation we discovered they had overbooked the Junior Suite because of a wedding. I had paid £99 for the suite with breakfast through the Accor website the room we were were originally given was pretty basic and on the website was £55 plus £20 for breakfast.
What initially annoyed me was nothing was mentioned of the change in room, and I had already paid in advance.
I must say in all fairness when this was brought to the attention of the Mercure staff they could not do enough for us.
They gave us a reduction in price for an Executive room and free breakfast, they also very kindly paid for a return taxi into Swansea for a concert we were attending.
After the concert we went back to our room as the lounge and bar were somewhat chaotic and noisy which one can expect with wedding guests etc.
Then all hell let loose all night long, with shouting, argueing and running up and down the corridors , at 4-45 am my wife went into the corridor to tell them to keep their noise down, the hotel security was there trying to cool things down. The noise did not subside and the running up and down the corridors continued, I was told the hotel eventually called the police.
Needless to say we were absolutley shattered with vurtually no sleep.
At breakfast some of the wedding guests were there and still being very loud with kids running around every where and mother,s shouting at them at the top of their voices, it was like watching trailer trash on The Jerry Springer Show.I heard one of their group say that they had to leave immediatley or they would have to pay for the damage done to a games machine.
The staff again were very apologetic and we sympathised with them for having to put up with all this, after all it was not their fault for the lack of manners and consideration of these foul mouthed people.
Again they were very curtious to us and indeed they offered further reduction for our stay.
So all things considered they handled all this as best they could, however the police could have been involved earlier.
The hotel general Manager has since telephoned me and explained what had caused the error in the room mix up, he has also sent me a letter offering a favourable room rate next time we stay at his hotel.
We will probably accept his offer as I think we would be extremley unfortunate for a repeat of this terrible experience.
The hotel a very pleasant place to stay and has a lake with wildlife at the rear. The lounge and bars have a nice ambiance and rooms quite clean, the chamber maid was such a lovley lady so very friendly and a excellent ambassador for the hotel, she told us she was originally from Canada.
Apart from the problems mentioned earlier this hotel is a nice place to stay.
I would also like to congratulate the manager for having such helpful friendly staff.
