We decided to pay for the ticket that only granted us access to the grounds.
The landscape is absolutely enormous needed a map to follow it. There are lots of things to see from little huts to trees planted by famous people. The Gardens are beautifully kept and it is a lovely walk.

I visited Drumlanrig Castle for their Christmas fayre. The event was very busy and well attended. As usual the sight of the castle on approach was stunning. People were parking on the driveway but there were spaces on the gravelled carpark- there were assistants available to help and direct so it was well organised. We walked around the Christmas trail , again this was great fun for the children and well put together. The cafe area was very busy but we managed to get a table quickly. And staff were friendly. I had a soup which was absolutely delicious- I would recommend! I will be back to enjoy the setting again.

The Mountain Bike Centre and the range of trails are extensive, Rik the bike shop man has a range of bikes that exceeded my expectations, these are not the clunkers you may be used to as holiday rentals, they are proper bikes maintained fully and a testament to Rik's skills. The apres bike ride scones and tea in the cafe were extremely good as well. Well worth a trip off the A76 and the scenery on the way as well as the stunning roads are something you should not miss. Take every member of the family, something for them all.

Great selection of mountain biking trails and Rik the owner of the on site bike shop is superb, a wealth of knowledge..... oh and there are well kept showers! The castle looks quite nice too, but I've never visited that :)

If Castles and Stately Homes are your thing, a tour of Drumlanrig Castle will delight you.
Gardeners will love the grounds around the castle.
For children, there are woods and an amazing adventure playground.
The woodland offers walking and mountain biking.
There really is something for everyone!
We live locally, so we visit regularly. The estate is permanently open but for the castle, gardens and playground do check the website for opening details.
