We stayed for two weeks, using Duntrune House as a base to travel all over Scotland. The place itself is a wonderful old Scots Baronial style home, which still retains the feel of a home rather than a hotel. The formal rooms are impressive but welcoming, and Barrie and Olwyn go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are all sorts of nice touches like the bird and plant books in the hallway for the nature-lovers. While we were there, the garden was visited regularly by pheasants, various finches, and even a woodpecker!

The house itself is situated in gardens on a hill overlooking Dundee and the Tay amidst a small wood. A ha-ha means the view from ther benches under the majestic trees in front is uninterrupted and the setting itself is beautiful. Breakfasts were large and included gems like Arbroath 'Smokies'. I would highly recommend Duntrune to travellers wanting a warm and hospitable home from home in an idyllic location.

Room Tip: We stayed in the self contained flat, but saw the other rooms, and wouldn't hesitate to stay in any of them.

The house is an early 19th century Laird's mansion with stone floors and a wonderful stone staircase.
Although there was nothing over the top about the wonderful hospitality provided, we could have been nowhere but in Scotland. The owners made us feel immediately at home as indeed we did share their home. Our first night we had a wonderful meal with Barrie and Olwyn and Olwyn's sister and brother-in-law, and then retired to the sitting room to sit and talk over a roaring wood fire. Do be sure to ask for a meal from their chef Mathew de Franco.
Excellent comfortable bedrooms and beds, and a typical Scottish breakfast - I loved the haggis and Helen enjoyed the porridge.

We enjoyed a lovely week end at Duntrune House. The house is very close to Dundee as well as other towns such as St Andrews etc. The gardens are beautiful and house itself is full of history and has a lovely cosy feel to it. Bedrooms were very comfortable and warm and every need is catered for, even fluffy bathrobes!

We were lucky enough to enjoy our evening meals at the house. I cannot stress how fantastic this was, the meals were truly exceptional - really really delicious. The chef visited nightly to advise of the menu & each evening the meal was heavenly. I would highly recommend at least one meal at Duntrune!

Barry & Olwyn are amazing hosts who can't do enough to make sure you feel comfortable. They really take pains to ensure that you have everything you need & are so welcoming.

I would highly recommend Duntrune House, whether it's a international visit or a staycation just to get away. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

The Duntrune House in Dundee, Scotland, is a B&B located about a mile out of Dundee. It has the atmosphere of a small castle, with grand rooms, high ceilings, a grand staircase and a lovely entrance, but it is also warm and cozy. The Graham room is quite large; apparently it was the master suite at one time. All rooms look out into the fields. Breakfast is very good and I would highly recommend having at least one dinner there. The owners bring in a chef who prepares a gourmet dinner. The most wonderful thing about the Duntrune house is the husband and wife team that run it. They are most welcoming and warm. Also nearlby is Glamis Castle, the castle where the recently deceased Queen Mom grew up. Definitely worth the tour.

Room Tip: Graham suite is the largest room.

We strongly recommend Duntrune House as a Bed & Breakfast in Scotland. Convenient to the Castle Tour, St. Andrews and Edinburgh. This B&B is a delightful combination of staying in a Scotish manor home, a stay with friends, and a gourmet tour. Dinner is well worth the extra as they bring in a special chef. The rooms are alive with antiques and the decorating has been exquisitely reconstructed. The owners have taken painstaking care of this house. The grounds are peaceful. You may need the help of the owners for directions but with that, it is not difficult to find. Just minutes out of Dundee. Such a peaceful place is well worth staying several days.
