We stayed as a family at Duntrune House, and felt like it was a home from home. The house is beautiful and the grounds are great for a leisurely walk or for children to burn of some energy. With a great choice of breakfast items and excellent service, this is a great place to stay in a lovely part of the UK. Barrie & Olwyn were great hosts as always, the rooms spacious and beds comfortable.

A fantastic house with stunning views made exceptional by the perfect hosts Barrie & Olwyn.
My wife and I stayed for 4 nights with our son and grandson.
A grand characterful house full of charm and comfy rooms.
What made our stay so special was the hospitality and warmth of Barrie & Olwyn. Nothing would have been too much trouble, they took time to sit and talk, which we all enjoyed so much.
The 'Bed' part was spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. This leaves to explain the 'Breakfast' bit - a joyful experience of choice and quality. After breakfast we could last the day without lunch!
Outside the 8 acres of grounds make good exploration with the great backdrop of the views over Dundee and the river estuary.
We all look forward to staying again.

We thoroughly enjoyed a 5 night stay in July/Aug of 2014. Duntrune House is a charming 1820's country estate a few miles NE of Dundee, offering an isolated rural feel without having to drive far off the beaten path. Our hosts were simply fantastic--thoroughly welcoming and never unavailable and yet not intrusive in any way. Conversations were comfortable and unhurried. You could easily "breakfast until lunch".

Barrie and Olwyn are deeply connected to the area, and can offer tips on a diverse local attractions. You certainly need a car at Duntrune, but there is much to do within a stone's throw. Our local favorites were Arbroath Abbey, St. Cyrus Beach, Glamis and Dunnottar Castle. We got a better feel for the Highlands at Glen Doll just an hour north than we did on a much longer trek to Inverness.

Five nights felt about right, but a week would not have been excessive. There was a little scaffolding up for some stonework in back, otherwise my son would have loved to update their video. Don't expect a sterile modern glass palace--this is a mature property with the sort of charms and quirks that create the distinct feeling of being in a home--one where we felt relaxed and welcome.

Room Tip: All rooms are South view. The Graham room had more than enough room for three and a palatial bathroom with separate WC.

I have stayed on 2 occasions at Duntrune while my daughter attended University of Dundee. The setting and the home are truly a piece of history. The hosts Barrie and Olwyn were the perfect gentile Scots who provided a delightful overall experience and went the extra mile to help! I would return in a heartbeat. It is a quiet oasis - with a beautiful view- from which to explore the region and very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: there are 2 large bedrooms on each end

Our visit to Scotland for our 25th wedding anniversary was made all the more wonderful by our stay at Duntrune house. Not only are the grounds and house incredibly stunning, but our hosts Alwyn and Barry made us feel like welcome family! The kingsize bed was very comfortable, the rooms were beautiful and the food was amazing. (Barry even convinced me to try some local haggis and I loved it!) The peacefulness of the setting and house was just what we needed after a couple of weeks of non-stop travel. We will always hold Duntrune house and Barry and Alwyn in a special place in our hearts. If you are looking for a place to stay where you can interact with 2 very intelligent and kind people who truly love their regionals home, you must stay here. (Alwyn even offered to do my 2 weeks of laundry!)
