We had stayed in the Hotel Dr Vin in St Andrews previously and we were amazed by the quality of food and service.
We were looking forward to an amazingn anniversary night in Edinburgh Hotel De Vin !!!!
Disappointed!!!
The room looked amazing, monsoon showers and double bath, very romantic, but ...
Welcome was very rushed, no attempt made to explain how to use the bose sound system which did not work at all!! We called the manager but he had no idea how to work it. (Should have remembered my wi-fi speaker!!)
Dinner was very poor!
Starter of Pork & Rabbit pate came as a lump of fatty pate with stale bread and two pickled chillies!!
Main course of Aubergines and grilled halloumi was a bowl of tomatoes dominated splodge with a bit of cheese on top!! No salad, no finesse!!
Main course of red Mullet looked good! Wow! Some rocket leaves, at least that's a start! The fish was well cooked and tasty, but absolutely ruined by the sloppy, lumpy mashed potatoes and mustard sauce that came with it!!!
Only 2 bath towels in the room!! Well they were dead after showering for dinner! After asking for more towels we were given 1 more bath towel and 3 hand towels!!
Hang on a minute! We were paying for luxury here and getting budget hotel treatment!!... no the service and experience did not come close to a budget hotel!!!
Beautiful hotel and it looks very posh but definitely not worth risking a visit!!
Especially for a special occasion!!
Very Very disappointing!!!!

Good morning,
thank you so much for sharing your feedback - I am truly sorry to hear such comment as we strive on delivering a personable and consistent service throughout the hotel. We have a fantastic reputation as you can see from other reviews. The bose system in your room wasn't set up properly and doesn't accept phones to be plugged into it nor into the TV as you tried to do.
I have indeed taken on board your comments on the food as again since we have changed our menu nothing but positive feedback has been received. I wished on the night you would have mentioned it so we could have offered alternatives for you as we have a seasonal and fantastic range of dishes available on our menu.
I truly hope we will see you again very soon and you will give us the chance to change your mind on our hotel services,
warmest regards, Ben Bel, General Manager

Only positives to say about this hotel. We stayed in “grand dame” suite. The room was lovely with a walk in short and roll top bath. We ate at the hotel and the food was very good. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The bar had a good selection of whiskey. The only thing to say is that we stayed at the Witchery the night before and it was so good this placed came across a bit ordinary. If we’d stayed here first it would probably knocked our socks off! A good hotel with excellent facilities.

This hotel is built in an old building in the old town area. This means stairs to climb even if the hotel has an elevator. It didn't trouble us much - the hotel has charm. Location was perfect for us; close to the castle, the Royal Mile and other attractions. Walking distance (15 minutes) to Waverly Station and Princes street. The service was the best with friendly people all over. Room (superior) was excellent with good wifi and great bath. A small minus for ventilation that was really very efficient on a warm summer day. Breakfast was perfect for us. Highly recommended.

Arrived Sunday 13th for 2 nights. Booked as an anniversary get away weekend. From the minute we walked in the door, Maitrayee, at reception, made us feel extremely welcome! Customer service is second to none. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. I had previously ordered a bottle of prosecco to be in room waiting for us. It was and was really cold, with a lovely personal note to us both. Rooms are lovely, comfortable and spacious. Everything you would require. Breakfast was amazing! I would highly recommend the eggs Benedict!! All staff are very friendly and can not do enough to help. Hotel is central to everything you would wish to do in Edinburgh. Very comfortable bed, amazing bathroom and beautiful room! Would highly recommend this hotel if visiting Edinburgh!! I think Maitrayee should get a pay rise for being so attentive and friendly!

Special occasion stay and pushed the boat out to stay in one of the suites. This hotel maintains the high standards of service that this chain pride themselves on providing. Though we didn't have too much interaction with the staff, all seemed polite, professional and at attentative. We chose to eat out most of he time, Checkpoint bar across the road is a great place, though did have breakfast one morning which was great and good value all considered. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend.
