surprised at the negative reviews on here
visited twice - once for a takeaway the with my dad for fathers day to sit in
both times we had the large fish and chips and it was cooked perfectly and a good size
we also had the vietnamese dipping sauce which is just amazing
the local Pilot blonde beer was also moreish

service was really good too , especially with the dark girl who joked with me and my dad and looked after us perfectly

will deffo be back

Having tried the restaurant twice with mixed results, first time a lot not available on the menu and service was slow, this was understandable as it was soon after opening and things take time to settle in. Second visit not a lot better, service was haphazard and slow, lovely waiting staff but not well managed or organised. Last night decided to try the takeaway, as we passed the fryer in the queue we ordered 2 large haddock suppers, a single squid and a single portion of scampi and then progressed to the top of the queue. As we got there the haddock and squid was then boxed but we had to wait a good 5 minutes for the scampi whilst the rest of our order sat on the counter top. The bill Including 5 portions of dip at £1 each was £38, fairly hefty. Got home and opened the scampi, really disappointed to find 6 pieces and a slice of lemon (see picture, £8) even more disappointed to find they were 6 pieces of monkfish and not scampi. On top of that the squid was so over cooked it was inedible, no taste, very film texture, the large haddock suppers were a good size and tasty. We’re unlikely to return to either the restaurant or the takeaway any time soon, which is a shame as we were so looking forward to the opening, and hoping for the same fantastic consistency and quality of food and service we enjoy from the fishmonger next door, but it’s not to be, for the moment anyway.

Never seen a place run so unprofessionally which given the state of service in Scotland takes some beating. Took 30mins to get a fish supper on first visit with no management of any kind on sight including on opening week! Subsequent visits only reinforced the impression of a place where untrained and indifferent staffs are left to their own device;. The sight of the ‘Chef’ overtly flirting with very young female staff in plain view of customer is unwelcome in this day and age; a shame given the beautiful location and Leith growing number of interesting eatery. Ough well....

The restaurant looks great but the food just doesn't justify the prices.

A tenner will get you a scampi supper with four miserable tiny bits of scampi (which are mostly breadcrumbs anyway) and the chips were barely cooked. Haddock supper better value but swimming in grease and the tryhard gourmet curry sauce was bland and barely spiced with anything.

Very busy when we went but no excuse even if the poor lassie behind the counter looked like she was having a nightmare. I'm voting with my feet next time and leaving this place's fare for the seagulls to enjoy...

Have visited a couple of times now. Great setting and great food priced reasonably for Edinburgh.....but......
Service - some servers good others a bit abrupt.
Why do they serve on metal plates with paper on the bottom? Fish is a bit greasy with the result that the paper gets mushy and can be caught up in the food.
Better with nice crockery plates and not paper - let the fish drain a but more if the grease is a problem. Carry out did not seem to suffer so badly from grease.
Extra charge for tartare sauce - a bit much, better if they just included it in the overall price.
Hope they can make these improvements.
Overall will go back, just what this area needs.
