Description: Edinburgh may be teeming with French restaurants but very few are as authentic as LEscargot Bleu. Gaining dedicated fans from the moment its doors opened, this place owes less to what a French restaurant should be than to what a French restaurant is as any visitor to the little bistros of Parisian back streets and off-the-beaten-track towns will tell you. The haphazardly put together surroundings, dotted with Edith Piaf posters and furnished with checked clothed tables, only hints at what the menu has to offer. So true to real French eating, the menu is very nearly unbelievable with snails cooked in piquant garlic, steaks smothered in cheese-heavy sauces and anything else youd care to imagine being sent out of any good kitchen in Perpignan, Poitiers or Pontivy served without a hint of irony.

My daughter graduated two years ago and we celebrated at L'Escargot Bleu. My son graduated yesterday and we did the same again. L'Escargot Bleu is just as we remember it, reliably excellent in food, wine list, service and value. I cannot recommend this restaurant too highly.

We've been here a number of times over the years and the experience has always been superb. Our latest visit was no different.

The lunch menu is such good value. Not a huge choice, but certainly something to satisfy everyone in our party (which included pensioners, a pescatarian & a teenager!). Anyway, there's always the a la carte to choose from too.

Mussels in a curry broth with chickpeas was a lovely introduction. My main course of guinea fowl and pork roulade with a shallot and mushroom sauce was simply superb. Their creme brûlée is certainly worth saving space for too!

The house wines are excellent and good value too.

All the staff there are both knowledgeable and very friendly. They were even willing/able to adapt one of the dishes slightly to cope with a family member's dietary requirements.

This is most definitely our go to place when we require a little fix of France.

A group of colleagues went to L'Escargot Bleu early and spent to whole night there, eating lovely food (marred only by a non-runny poached egg on my asparagus salad), drinking great house wine, and enjoying each others company.
The waiters and waitresses were very attentive and so nice.
Can't believe I have never been - I will be back.

So far we have eaten there 2 times during our trip to Edinburgh. Had to go back for the steak tartare. Unbeliavable. The service has been excellent with both times. High recomendation. We probably will eat there on our last night as well.
Just pure pleasure of dining.

Came for dinner before heading to see a show at the playhouse. We had the lamb for main course was very nice and easy to cut!!! Only negative was I felt the tables were really close together!!!. Didn't want to join another couple. The staff were very attentive couldn't fault them at all.
