Enjoyed walking up to the Royal Mile and exploring St. Giles cathedral, the shops, the restaurants, Edinburgh castle at the top and Holyrood Palace at the bottom end!

It probably has very little resemblance to the Royal times. So many shops, so many international cuisines to taste from and nestled in the middle are the historic buildings that are over 500+ years old.

It's beautiful and has to be done once. Be prepared - it's a lot of tourist wool and whiskey shops. But if you're into wool and whiskey...this is a great place :)

Once you've satisfied your souvenir desires, I'd head to the restaurants in New Town, which I thought were significant better and more reasonably priced. That being said, the food on the Royal Mile is still much better than the average tourist fare.

The core of the old city, with lots of shops, interesting small museums, and the like, as well as street performers in the evening. Full of tourists.
