This tour is a good activity in Edinburgh. It is well-organized starting with the queue to get the tickets, then the barrel ride showing you a bit of how whisky is produced. Of course as it is not an actual distillery, most of it are in pics or videos, so not really as cool as seeing the real deal. Then, the presentation of the different scotch-producing regions was for me the most interesting part as it showed the many beautiful places to visit in Scotland, inc not whisky-related. I wished i had seen this presentation at the start of my trip. Our tour guide was also extremely knowledgeable and friendly although could be a bit more stricter as some participants in the tour were not following the instructions causing delays. I didn't really like the blended whisky I had to taste and the experience was kinda expensive so i'm giving 4 stars.

Thank you for leaving a review! We're very pleased that you enjoyed the Sense of Scotland room and enjoyed the company of your guide.

We have priced the tour according to everything provided in the ticket, which includes the tasting and the Glencairn glass, but in the future you can always appreciate whisky in the bar downstairs without having to do the tour, at the price you'd be willing to pay for a given dram.

We hope this has helped!

My husband loves peaty, ashtray-tasting whisky from Islay and I thought that all whisky tasted like that. After taking the platinum tour as part of the Taste of Scotland experience, I know there's so much more to whisky in Scotland! Euan was a fantastic, kind, and informative host. The tour was complete with the barrel ride, scratch and sniff of the regional whisky notes, a tasting/teaching about what to experience with our eyes, nose, and palate with two tastings, then practicing our skills with two more tastings in the midst of an amazing collection of whisky, tasting our last whisky with Euan (and getting goodie bags), and finally, heading to Amber, the in-house restaurant for a meal. Thanks to Euan for a terrific introduction to whisky for this scaredy-cat!

Our experience in Amber was a bit mixed. The Taste of Scotland was true to its name in food as well as we sampled fish, red, and white meats from Scotland. The Balmoral Chicken (chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon) was amazing! As part of the Taste of Scotland experience, you don't order from the menu except for drinks. You'll receive three bite-sized starters, three items as part of the main (aforementioned chicken, also lamb, and salmon on cullen skink), and a final whisky with dessert. Our service was a bit slow, but our server carefully explained everything we were served as well as gave tips on how to best enjoy the whisky with dessert.

The whole experience lasted from check-in at 6:00 pm to departure at 9:30. We had a very brief time in the shop, but are welcome to visit another day and use our tour ticket to receive 2 pounds discount. The best time to shop is in the 15 minutes between check-in and the tour beginning.

Went for the platinum tour followed by dinner. A wonderful experience, full of infos but also fresh and entertaining. Very good dinner, and a lovely range of tastings.

Located next to the Edinburgh Castle and The Witchery Restaurant, we enjoyed a fabulous tour with Fie our tour guide. We learned the correct way to sample the many different regions of whiskeys. Surprisingly they really do taste and smell very different. One of my 19 year old daughter’s favorite tours. Everyone of age will go to a separate area to sample one whiskey.. which is the silver package. The gold package will give you additional tastings in another location with all the regions which is where even a novice can taste the distinct flavors of the regions.
You might want to do the castle at 9:30-11:30, then leave the castle and do the Scottish Whiskey Experience and afterwards lunch at The Witchery.
