This B&B is just outside the city centre but it is walkable in 20-30 minutes.

We were here for two nights to attend the Royal Military Tattoo and Fringe Festival.

The check in was easy and fast with friendly owners and staff - I advise arriving early to avoid not having a parking space. I had to leave my car round the corner on a street but could luckily see it from the window of my room.
The bed was massive and very comfy, but taking up most of the room there was limited storage space.

The shower was hot but not very powerful and the sink hot tap was broken when we arrived – the owner did mention that it didn’t work but didn’t seem like he was going to fix it for us, the next morning it was working so we can only assume that someone was in our room fixing it whilst we weren’t there.

The breakfast was ok and there was plenty of fresh choice – a bit misleading with the offer of a full Scottish breakfast and having an average choice of bacon, eggs, beans and sausage with toast.

It was one of our most expensive venues during a weeklong tour around Scotland and I believe that this is purely because of the Edinburgh price tag.

If I were to return to Edinburgh I would probably stay elsewhere because I believe for the amount this B&B costs (it’s not a hotel) I could stay somewhere nicer.

Room Tip: Turn up early to get a parking space.

A very comfortable stay, the host Tony was really accommodating, friendly and went the extra mile! Ubers were about £5 to get to the centre but the street it's on has some nice food places and shops. We would stay again.

Host Tony greeted us 845pm on a Sunday with a welcoming smile and was very helpful. Room very comfortable. Christine and Nicky were also great help with tips, room make up and breakkie. Brekkie good value. Great position. Thank you Tony - love your B&B. Highly recommended.

Good points - staff helpful, friendly and welcoming. Very clean throughout and rooms refurbished, great beds, towels, etc. Breakfasts very good offering cereal, fruit, toast, and hot scrambledK egg, sausages, bacon, baked beans, hash browns, etc.
Negatives - Not suitable for the elderly as there are no lifts and many staiirs to two upstairs floors and also to basement rooms which have no windows! I feel the cost of basement windows should not be the same as for other floors. However they are well air conditioned and well appointed. Quite a few good eateries within a mile of Allison House. Buses at the door. Front entrance untidy, cigarette butts etc.

To address the "no window" complaint, we would first of all like to fully apologise if this causes any worry for you when booking. We fully advertise the room as being a "no window" room, and without having prior knowledge we would never allow anyone to book without consenting to the fact their room may have no window.

We look forward to your next visit to Edinburgh, please do give us a call as we will be more than happy to accommodate you again.

Situated about 2 Miles south of the city centre the hotel is well served by buses that run down the straight road into town. There are many shops and eating places along the way. I booked a standard double but was pleased to find myself in an enormous room with a super king size bed, a divan sofa and 3 armchairs. I could have sublet it for a conference.

The breakfast was slightly disappointing it was served buffet style, so you could have as much or as little as you wished. There was a nice selection of fruits. Melon, Peaches, Strawberries, Grapes, Pineapple and natural yoghurt. The cooked items contained only scrambled eggs, the bacon was always cold, the sausages were tasty but the hash browns, kept in a covered container became a little soggy and bland, beans were provided but no tomatoes or mushrooms.
