Some of the staff were very good but couple of trainees who did not have a clue, but you try to rise above that as someone is always learning and you need to have patience. This is an old type of Victorian hotel and whilst it has what is required ie clean bed, hot shower and towels and a restaurant and bar, basic tea/coffee in large sitting area on first floor, it is what it is, but no finesse! Rooms basic and could do with a complete overhaul, but if get room with view of the river Ness then maybe you could put up with them. They offer deals on food which are very good and if you park in the nearest council car park near the cathedral they will reimburse you the £4.80 by way of drinks to that value. On your room card there is also an offer to have a complimentary drink to the value of £2.99 for a small wine or beer. We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal, but the hotel had just taken a large group of foreign tourists in the dining room so I did not hold out much hope of getting a great meal due to the volume of people in the dining room. Starter was the fish platter which was very good, then the medium rare steak arrived just as it should be and was very good but the large greasy onion rings are just awful so very very greasy, I would suggest taking them off! The breakfast was good for me offering porridge, fruits etc and full cooked breakfast and later on the staff allowed me to store luggage and bags of shopping in a safe place until my husband finished his business. Location is great though.

Room Tip: Ask for a River View

Old hotel with its charms at good location by the river. Tesco supermarket next door. Noisy pipes. 1 lift only. Free wifi but it was not working that day. Bar at the front and restaurant at the back of the hotel. Coffee/tea available in room. Maze like corridors to get to room. Very small TV in room.

Dear Guest, thank you for your review. We are pleased that you found the Hotels location good. We apologise if any noise from pipes caused a disturbance and that our WIFI was not working when you stayed. We have looked into our WIFI and it is all in working order now so we are unsure as to what may have happened. We are in the process of refurbishing the Hotel from rooms to public areas and TVs will be upgraded at some point in the future.
Kind regards

Overall very solid, just not amazing.

Location could hardly be better, and if you take a river/castle view room, there's no better vantage in Inverness other than maybe the castle itself - it was worth the extra 20 gbp/night to me.

Service quality and responsiveness will likely be lacking based on our experience and the reviews of other guests. Bar and meals were below average, but there's lots of great places to eat with 2 blocks, so this is hardly a let down. The lift will not help much if you are on the river side of the building, so be prepared to move your luggage through some narrow doorways. And lastly, more guarnateed parking is about 500 yards away - though we lucked out and found some just outside the hotel which is free from 4pm to 10am.

Would I stay again? Yes, for the view, or yes if I wanted to stay in a reasonably priced hotel which guarantees me en-suite bath, which many of the B&Bs do not.

Room Tip: Pay the extra to sleep more quietly and wake up to River Ness/Inverness Castle.

Don't take a chance on this hotel. We haven't had water to shower or flush since yesterday. No options for relocation. Staff is kind but only to apologize. No communication from them nor resolution nor accountability.
When and of the hotel is fully renovated then maybe. Beyond the broken plumbing the crumbling windows, cracked ceilings etc would disappoint.
How can this property possibly be rated a 4 star?

Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry for such a disappointing stay. We had a water pump fail in part of the Hotel on Friday 22nd September but was reported to a plumbing engineer who came out the following day to repair. We are very sorry if our Reception Team did not offer you the use of a room to shower in. We are in the process of refurbishing throughout the Hotel.
We do apologise profusely for the inconvenience caused during your stay.
Kind regards

Stayed at Columba Hotel for one night with my partner. We arrived to the place after a long day travelling only to be welcomed by chilly reception staff who wouldn't provide any information unless asked or engage in any conversation unless prompted. We were not looking forward to spending the night chatting with staff but I honestly think hospitality is about engaging in small talk as well, especially during check-in.

Seeing our room number had been changed, my partner requested to see the room before paying for our stay. The request seemed odd for the staff but got finally accepted.
Our room was quite nice - extremely comfy bed and nice view on the river as our booking stated.

As per the position of the hotel, you cannot get more central: everything is within walking distance.
The building, however, is extremely noisy. If you are a light sleeper, do not book yourself a room in this place. The walls are thin and the building has got some obvious plumbing issues. Not very pleasant after a long day.

The next morning we went for breakfast only to find a varied, however tasteless buffet, with staff running around trying to accommodate guests.
Hospitality is about going the extra mile for customers. I understand this is a quite large building with lots of customers, which can obviously result in a more distant relationship with them, but I don't think that's a valid excuse for such service.
I don't think I will return.
