Some of the staff were very good but couple of trainees who did not have a clue, but you try to rise above that as someone is always learning and you need to have patience. This is an old type of Victorian hotel and whilst it has what is required ie clean bed, hot shower and towels and a restaurant and bar, basic tea/coffee in large sitting area on first floor, it is what it is, but no finesse! Rooms basic and could do with a complete overhaul, but if get room with view of the river Ness then maybe you could put up with them. They offer deals on food which are very good and if you park in the nearest council car park near the cathedral they will reimburse you the £4.80 by way of drinks to that value. On your room card there is also an offer to have a complimentary drink to the value of £2.99 for a small wine or beer. We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal, but the hotel had just taken a large group of foreign tourists in the dining room so I did not hold out much hope of getting a great meal due to the volume of people in the dining room. Starter was the fish platter which was very good, then the medium rare steak arrived just as it should be and was very good but the large greasy onion rings are just awful so very very greasy, I would suggest taking them off! The breakfast was good for me offering porridge, fruits etc and full cooked breakfast and later on the staff allowed me to store luggage and bags of shopping in a safe place until my husband finished his business. Location is great though.
