Have stayed in the Newton many times before as it’s been one of the hotels we use for business travel when up North. Booked 3 courtyard rooms only a room only deal which suited us as it meant we could go out in Nairn at night. Hotel was pretty quiet even though there was a coach party in. It is a bit of a faff to access the courtyard rooms with the door code but understand why it’s needed. The hotel itself is a bit tired in places but it’s adequate if your staying for a short trip.
Rooms were comfy but a bit warm. Staff friendly.
Breakfast was a separate charge and at £12.50, not bad value.

Location is genuinely great in that it is removed from town down a long, gorgeous driveway, yet still within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The hotel food and restaurant service was excellent. Rooms are a total hit or miss. Our group booked with them months ago and a number of our party were put in the annex where the rooms were cold, moldy, and dark. When the front desk was told of their problem when they asked if they could please be moved, their response was 'Well, turn on your heat'. One staff member at the front desk stated, 'I'm busy' when someone asked if they could ask a question. The decor is weird with a Fatima statue with fake flowers and candles in the lobby. This is a hotel that has big bus groups coming in daily and so they see a lot of turnover. If you are planning a stay of several days or more, and you want responsive front desk service, then go someplace else like the Golf View Hotel.

Attended a dinner function last night. Lovely food, friendly staff and good service. Understand their are staffing difficulties due to covid but this wasn’t apparent at last nights function. Good selection of drinks available at the bar. Lovely comfy seating in the function suite bar area. Thank you for a lovely evening.

To be fair, I understand that much if Europe is understaffed from COVID, however, this hotel still appears to have been going downhill for a long time. We stayed for 2 nights in the Chaplin suite and it was very underwhelming. Some things to note if you are thinking of staying here:

1. The internet did not work in our rooms and was very slow elsewhere in the hotel. The cable TV was also spotty and there are no modern apps like Netflix, Amazon, etc.

2. Much of the hotel looks like it was cheaply renovated in the 80s 90s and hasn’t been updated since. There is trash from repairs and renovations littered around the building, which is an eyesore.

3. The Chaplin restaurant was completely closed (maybe due to COVID?)

4. The staff looked really young (teenagers) and were undertrained. The bar staff couldn’t make basic drinks and even admitted that some of the liquor was old and no longer good. Even the beer tap wasn’t working properly.

5. The town of Nairn is cute but not a lot going on there. You’ll find better restaurants, shopping and nightlife in Inverness.

6. The shower had very low water pressure and took a loooong time to get any hot water to come out. The towels were also discolored and stained.

I don’t want to leave this review with all negatives as much of the staff was trying and were generally nice, I just feel it is important to be honest about the accommodations. The grounds near the hotel are also very pretty and a short walk to the beach nearby was nice in the evening.

Thank you for your review. The hotel is currently working on increasing internet provision, but on the whole this works well across rooms and public areas.

We make every effort to ensure all areas are neat and tidy and gardens are well looked after with work undertaken almost daily to ensure that the hotel presents well to our guests. We open all year round so work does at times take place during the busy season, but our general view is that this is kept to a minimum and any materials left should be in a neat & tidy manner or removed from the premises as soon as possible.

Chaplins restaurant is now completely open and yes staffing has been challenging this year to maintain full restaurant service. We have made efforts to ensure that we feed all guests, but at peak times we know that we have not been able to
achieve this for everyone.

Yes we have a young team, who are developing. They receive regular training, but do not always do as they have been shown.I receive much good feedback regards there all round attitude and we see good progression as they work through a busy season, at times with shorter staffing levels than we would wish to operate with.

There are some very good restaurant in Nairn, but it is a small town compared to Inverness, but caters well as a town for visitors who do not wish to travel a longer distance in the evening.

If there are towels that are discoloured they should be removed from operation, we will follow up with housekeeping.
The maintenance team work on ensuring water pressure is good to showers and we have fitted many additional units to help this. Will follow up why this was a issue for your room with them.

Thank you for your constructive feedback we note your points and continue to look to improve all services throughout in what is a busy and challenging season for us.

Kind Regards

We stayed in an external Courtyard Room, which was adequate, but quite dark and gloomy. Hotel probably good for weddings and conferences but very little to offer tourists, e.g. no information leaflets or information in room on what to see or do in local area. We ate out locally for evening dinner. We paid extra for breakfasts which are not mentioned on the hotel website. Upon checking out the bill was incorrect as we had duplicate charges for breakfast. Had to get amount charged corrected before we left.

Thank you for your feedback. There should be tourist information in the form of large brochure for the area in each room.
Will follow up with housekeeping to ensure these are all in place. Apologises regards your breakfast charge we have just
installed new reservation billing system and presenting some issues which are being resolved as we progress with it.
Thank you for your feedback it is always helpful to us.
