We hired a motorboat to take us out - what an incredible place! The quiet, the deer, the ruins - this is a magical place. Our boat let us stay for 1/2 hour, but if I were doing it again, I'd row out myself and spend at least an hour in the quiet - maybe bring a picnic blanket. Or ask the motorboat for more time. Don't miss this!

Beautiful little island. Bring a picnic and enjoy the waters edge. The ruin of the church is beautiful. Lovely walk round the island

I took this trip on a whim, as I was visiting the Ross Castle and had an hour spare. Ancient ruins, a 500 year old tree in the front, and taking a nice 45 minute walk around the island we encountered wild deer. Apparently centuries ago certain kings were educated here. A hidden gem.

This trip is unlike any other we have had in Ireland so far. We boarded a small boat with one other couple that took us to Innisfallen. The boat we took was "The Otter"- our guide was amazing and his small Pomeranian/chihuahua accompanied us to the island. It was literally just us and one other couple on the island for half an hour to explore. The island is incredibly peaceful, sites are beautiful and we even got within 6-7 feet of the small deer that inhabit the island. One of the highlights of our trip- definitely worth it.

We went on a rainy cold day and we had the whole island to ourselves, except for the tiny Red Deer that only live on the island. The ruins of the Abbey date back to the 6th Century. The Roman Abbey dates to the 11th Century. The cross is stunning.
