A beautiful hotel with fantastic rooms and restaurants that is centrally located in the middle of Killarney , the only down sides we found was the attitude of the senior restaurant staff member on our last morning for breakfast , we witnessed him being rude to an elderly couple who weren't guests who came in for breakfast and then experienced the same from him ourselves , as we had a room only rate the minute we finished our meal
He was on us like a flash and took out of his pocket a docket to sign and to whisk us out of the restaurant , and the fact that the door man would stand and let you open the door then welcome you into the hotel .
Could be a lot better through fine tweaking of the little things

For many years we recommended this hotel to friends and family but after last weeks experience , unfortunately this is no longer the case. Indeed the hotel is still beautiful and ideally located but standards have dropped dramatically. We couldn’t check in till 4.30, paper towels left strewn in the public toilets for hours, and to top it all obnoxious guests allowed to blow smoke from e cigarettes in our face whilst checking out. Sorry, this is not our definition of a good hotel.

Arrival. Wedding. Red carpet. Photographer's. Stunning. Entrance to this beautiful hotel finally back to her former name. The Great Southern Hotel Killarney.
Red carpet amazing team.
The wonderful lady Mary Mac & new team. Such a joy to be here again. Check in as always so welcoming & extremely helpful. Onward boundnto room 276. Perfect view of gardens & water feature. Sounds of falling water so tranquil. Bright big spacious bedroom. Dressers. Table chairs. Large TV. Beautiful free standing bath. Double big shower. Beautiful old shaped sink. Copious toiletries. Tea & coffee facilities. Excellent choice room menu if one required food to the room. We opted one afternoon to have homemade scones with pots of tea. Arrived hot fruit and brown scones. Irish creamy butter, strawberry preserve & clotted cream. Mini shortbread cookies too. The bedroom so beautifully appointed you want to linger longer. Nice quite room back of hotel. Lift up. Then small walk. Water both sparkling & still supplied.
Browns Bar what a great team. Friendly, full of fun and information and advise. Excellent of Uisce beatha whiskey. Lovely to see and hear many American tourist in hotel all savouring our Irish Delights. Irish coffees too. Soft background music playing. Lovely lounge area in foyer to relax and people watch. Extremly attentive staff attending to you. Ensuring one is ok. Some of our lovely bedroom team so helpful. I enjoyed speaking. Some Hungarian & Polish to the helpful ladies. It works both ways. Makes each others day a nice nine. Beautiful breakfast served late in weekends till 11. Breakfast available to your room . Love breakfast heart given at reception with quiet times or busiest hours to be served. Amazing wine room. Wine cards may be purchased.
The Innisfallen spa. Excellent Spring offers. Massages & facials. Excellent products.
Afternoon Tea served from 12.30 to 17:00 in Then Reading Room. Dinner served nightly. Exquisite fare. Plus wonderful team to assist on helping you with your choice.
The train station is 4 minutes or less. The outlet next door for branded bargains. Every where is within walking distance from this Majestic hotel. We look forward to our return once again. 3 nights to us was not long enough. But one has to depart to return.
Again beautiful words of thanks from Mary Mac upon our departure. I wish all the present,Past and new team specially the new lady manager who was a pleasure to chat with the best in all this hotels future. Thank You.
As we sometimes say. I love my job. Love my breaks in Ireland's finest. Thank you TheGreat Southern Hotel Killarney!

This is a lovely hotel, in a terrific location. But do not expect a warm Irish welcome. The staff is all business. Felt more like an NYC chain hotel in how I was treated. Can't believe that it is the sister hotel of the Hayfield Manor in Cork. Not sure I'd stay at Great Southern again. However, Mary Mac, the concierge, is a GEM. She was what I had felt when I was at other places in Ireland. She's warm, very competent, knows her stuff and was eager to help and make things special. If I did go back, it would be because of her!
