A very impressive frontage, large lawn area set with tables which butts onto Harrogate Ladies College, I imagine that on a warm sunny evening it would lovely.
The entrance area is very spacious with lots of seating.
The receptionist was very friendly booking in was very efficient.
The hotel is large and rambling, anyone who has mobility problems would benefit from a room near to the lift.
The room we had was very clean but quite small, the bed was very comfortable the bathroom was immaculate, possibly recently upgraded.
The hotel was very busy in the evenings, it seems to concentrate on bus parties
The evening meal was served buffet style and strictly portion controlled, in my opinion not worth paying for. Breakfast was pretty reasonable.
The hotel is in a great location only a few minutes walk from the centre of Harrogate but let down very badly by the food.

Booked a room to stay on a sat night. Check in team friendly and helpful. The room was very small and out dated with wallpaper coming off the walls. Beneath the matress topper were other guests (i presume) hairs. Breakfast was ok at best, we were served at breakneck speed. 2 stars for effort of the team but not great i am afraid.

This is an imposing building, nicely located in easy walking distance for town, with generous parking; reception staff courteous and helpful. Our room on the third floor was spacious and had a good bathroom, was clean and adequately stocked with tea, coffee etc. Although the room was initially on the cool side we could adjust the heating to catch up. We didn't use other facilities during the stay. Couldn't help but notice a fusty smell permeating the 3rd floor corridor, which thankfully stopped at the room door; also, the paintwork on the doors was chipped or flaked in differing degrees and was badly scraped along the skirting boards (from the housekeepers' trolley). The bed, sadly, proved particularly uncomfortable -two linked divans which created a very noticeable double ridge in the centre and in addition to being slightly less hard than the floor (I tested this!) there were protruding springs which proved extremely uncomfortable. Worst nights sleep we have ever had. I understand the need for contract-quality divans etc in establishments like this, however other chains of hotels seem to balance this need whilst delivering higher levels of comfort.
The first night's evening meal - carvery style - was adequate, but no more than that; it appears that catering is geared towards coach tours at the expense of individuals or couples travelling independently. Breakfast was along similar lines, however the choice was good and it was possible to set oneself up for the day.
Overall, this hotel is a turn of the century grande dame who needs a little tlc; in all honesty, glad we accessed this via Groupon and did not pay full price.

Room Tip: Some 3rd floor rooms, whilst admitting natural light, have no view whatsoever

A special offer on half board with a bottle of wine thrown in on the first night meant that this hotel offered excellent value for money and a good base from which to explore Harrogate and beyond. The public rooms and the bedrooms are a little dated but are still to an acceptable standard. The food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the 3rd floor if possible

A lovely hotel, needing a little TLC, but nothing that takes away from the warmth of their hospitality. The food and attention was first class. Stayed there for 4 nights. A large bar area and lounge , with lots of comfortable chairs.

Room Tip: In back room looking over. a large lawn
