We stayed here over Christmas, using it as our place to sleep when visiting family. Given the time of year, everything was very good. There were obviously not loads of staff working, but everything worked well. Check-in took a minute, as did check-out on Boxing Day. Cleaners came every day except Christmas Day (which was absolutely fine, and if anyone wanted fresh towels on this day, they could collect from downstairs).

Breakfast was very good value, and good quality. I have to admit, I was expecting the bare minimum on Christmas Day morning, but everything was available, and just as plentiful as the other days.

Overall, it was very quiet, despite there being many families staying there. We couldn't hear anyone from our room, nor could we hear traffic (despite overlooking the High Street). The room was clean and functional. The bathroom, too, was fine. Only hand soap and shower gel, but it's a budget hotel, so I didn't expect loads of toiletries. Some complaints about the room temperature in other reviews, but we never found it to be a problem. We could control how hot or cold we wanted it, so things worked well from that perspective.

In terms of location, it was very good. Close to the park, and the civic centre/theatre (and so ideal for meeting up with family for the Pantomime). There is a Co-op mini market right next door, which was convenient, and the being on the High Street, there were plenty of shops and restaurants within a few minutes.

There is no parking as such, but there is a council run multi-storey car park around one minute away, which cost £4.50 for 24 hours (a bargain, especially when I compare to London). Be warned though - only cash payments, and it is locked at night (which is good from a security perspective, not so good if you wish to leave super early). In fact, one point for Christmas guests - it was locked completely from late on Christmas Eve until the day after Boxing Day. Thankfully I saw the council poster advertising this, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get back and forth from my family on those days. Plenty of other options, just a bit further away.

So, all in all, would we stay there again? Definitely. It is what it is - a Premier Inn, so don't expect luxury. But if what you're looking for is somewhere clean, comfortable, centrally located, and with friendly staff, then this does the trick.

You can always rely on a premier inn. We paid £35 a night here. Did not include breakfast obviously or WiFi room and bedroom comfortable. Shower/ bathroom felt new. Lovely staff at reception who left chocolates in our room for my bday. Nice touch. Plenty of places to eat nearby, but hotel has a restaurant where you can get anything from. Location could not have been better as right in centre of high street. Very quiet hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

Lovely room, fantastic location just into town centre.

Quiet room was indeed quiet - end of a corridor so na passing traffic.

Good shower.
Nice breakfast range.

Helpful staff when asked for a steak house recommended Cause (Argentinian) which was a short walk away and very good.

Also Leif tea house which had a live singer and great cocktails.

As you would expect from a Premier Inn, this hotel covers all of the basics, comfy bed, clean room, convenient location and a really good breakfast.

What made this hotel stand out for me was the attitude of the staff. we needed a meeting room, which they didn't have so they made part of the breakfast room available as it was not being used during the day, which worked really well and was very much appreciated.

Every member of staff we encountered had a smile on their face, and they all appeared to enjoy what they were doing, which is always a good sign

Booking in and checking out was really efficient, no issues with room cards / booking etc.

The pay and display car park behind the hotel is really convenient, the only problem is that is is cash only, so no card payments accepted
