Cotswold House is nestled in the heart of Chipping Campden, a beautiful Cotswold Village. On arrival, we were delighted to learn that we had been given a complimentary upgrade to one of their garden rooms, a little row of cottages in the garden at the rear of the hotel. We were shown to our lovely room, along a path flanked by English lavender. We had booked the Spa between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm and enjoyed a couple of hours relaxing in and by the pool.

Unfortunately, during those two hours our room was burgled and credit cards stolen. The perpetrators had been very tidy and the theft only came to light the following morning, when whoever had taken the cards, called the hotel and asked to be put through to our room purporting to be a family member. When the call was put through he changed identity and claimed to be calling from HSBC, then followed an elaborate and extensive story culminating in attempts to acquire personal information including PIN numbers.

We reported the incident to reception who were completely disinterested. We asked for help calling the police and were given none. We informed the police ourselves and an officer attended. They are now investigating the incident. The hotel confirmed they had CCTV covering the door to the room. Attempts by the police to obtain copies have failed, as the hotel have claimed they are unable to access the footage.

The hotel confirmed that this has happened before, but not in the room we were staying in. The hotel made no attempt to inform other guests staying in the garden rooms of the incident, to alert them to check their own cards.

We did not see anyone from the hotel management team on the day of the incident and to date, have received no correspondence from them apologising for what we experienced.

I am incredibly disappointed at the lack of concern shown by the hotel team and feel that they have not shown any professionalism in the handling of the incident.

Future guests please be aware of the vulnerability of these garden rooms and do not leave any valuables unattended. There are some very clever, devious teams operating in the area.

Sadly what should have been a relaxing short break, was very distressing and completely upset our trip to the Cotswolds.

Straight from our first visit to Cotswold House we were greeted openly with respect and on a personal level; we were made to feel like this lovely piece of the Cotswolds would be truly ours for our big day.

Their packages were laid out simply and it was clear what was (a lot) and what wasn't included. After visiting a few venues beforehand, we much preferred the Cotswold House way.

Mandy (Events Manager) supported us right from day one, Mandy made us feel very welcome and looked after us on a personal level, she is clearly very highly experienced and her organisation throughout was brilliant. Mandy kindly pointed us a few times in the right direction and gave us lots of helpful advice, despite this being outside of her role and outside of the venues services. The tasting meal exceeded our expectations and we were looked after by the fantastic Front of House team led by Bartosz.

Our Wedding day was perfect and we'd love to relive it all over again, everything went to plan and met or exceeded our vision. All staff were so welcoming and quite frankly blended away and took to all our guests needs. The food was great, just the right level of seasoning and portion size, although for our fillet of beef main we would have liked just a bit more colour such as another vegetable on the dish and a creamier dauphinoise (but I am an ex chef and particular). Overall the food exceeded our expectations given a Wedding Breakfast is a banquet type offering.

Throughout the day Mandy kept us on schedule and relaxed, we were truly well taken care of, this is despite our Wedding being 1 of 3 the same long weekend. The venue itself is wonderful, the rooms are luxurious and traditional. The venue is a tardis, our smaller guests loved all the garden areas to explore and play, with the adults enjoying the stunning surroundings and privacy. Our photos turned out great! If we have one criticism of our whole experience, it's the in house DJ, it was a bit Butlins.

We stayed away a couple of nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Had the cottage (Room 32) which had a small self contained garden and a lovely hot tub. Only been away for a few times with our dog as fairly new to this life. The hotel was perfect and our dog could potter around in the garden and was safe as houses. Staff were lovely and friendly and made our stay pleasant. Food was lovely. Full English was great as was the poached haddock with poached eggs and spinach. Would recommend the scallops starter and the steak and chips was great. Also had the afternoon tea which was lovely. Picturesque town with plenty to see and do. Stopped at Broadway on way ( 6 miles away) also picturesque. Great walks for the dog. Great stay all round.

Room tip: Hotel has its own car park at back of hotel

We returned to stay in room 19 after having had a couple of days of our honeymoon there for our 3rd Anniversary.
It was as good as we remembered. The huge bath made for two is wonderful.
The staff service is excellent. Perhaps having the unusual lighting system explained on arrival would be useful...however I enjoyed trying to work it out.
Updating it to an Alexa, or similar, system with Bluetooth enabled bathroom speakers would be a improvement.
The breakfasts were wonderful especially the staff. Being recognised on the second day by them made us feel important rather than an anonymous guest
The spa treatments were fantastic.
I personally would like a hand pumbed beer available but I realise the volumes etc aren't right but I can get a great one at the co-owned Noel across the road.
We will be back

We arrived for a spa break on a Sunday afternoon on appearance the hotel is beautiful and we was delighted but unfortunately didn’t last
We booked in for a spa treatment that was meant to be 30 mins at 5-20 and was told to come at 5-10
At 5,26 the lady’s came and got us but the time we got underdressed and lay on the bed it was gone 5.30 the treatment finished on the dot of 5.50 the treatment itself was perfect but shame was not the full time we paid for so very disappointed as it’s not cheap and is a luxury and possibly many years before I can afford another one

Evening meal was in the dining room food was lovely but the service wasn’t
We came down for dinner at 7,20 a little wait between starter and main but we’re away and in no hurry
Cocktails was not very good I ordered a mango and lime daiquiri but was so over powered off mint
Main plates was taken away with out anyone checking on our meal we did want some sauce and some bread but we went without as there was no one around to ask a very long wait before our plates was cleared and dessert menu offered but menu never arrived after 25 mins of waiting for someone to bring them and two hours of being seated we left al be it the bar did offer us dessert in our room after asking where the staff was it’s not really how we wanted our special evening to go
There was lots of other bad points but
I’m not one to complain as you can see by my profile I’ve only ever left 2 5* reviews but this really did spoil our special occasion

Room tip: Don’t stay in room7 a very big hot water pipe that’s not able to be turned off in July this is so uncomfortable
