Yesterday, (4.3.18) my daughter and her family took me to my favourite Hong Kong style eating house to celebrate my 77th birthday. We started off with the best Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs in the whole of greater Manchester, followed by Har Gow and Sui Mai. Our main courses were Stone Fried Sea Bass with Szechuan Sauce, Beef with Green Pepper and Black Bean, Cantonese Fried Spring Chicken with Vermicelli Singapore Style and Egg Fried Rice. The spare ribs, the dim sum and the beef were very good indeed and though I would have preferred the sea bass with a less powerful sauce I enjoyed it more than previously. Apart from the fact that the chicken was rather dry this was a very good meal and excellent value for money at £95 for three adults and two children and including a doggy bag of vermicelli, rice and chicken. Please note this is a review of the Ocean Treasure Seafood Restaurant on Greenside Way in Middleton and not the restaurant in the city centre with a similar name. Die-hard Sinophiles should also remember the additional menu of regional specialities which includes pigs chit’lins stuffed with prawn meat and other delights which I have not yet persuaded my family to sample. The restaurant was quite busy with plenty of Chinese families and service was good.
