Le Rocher de l'Arsaultis an old restaurant with new management in Perigueux along the river. I was there years ago when it was managed by 2 women. It is a clean pleasant place seating around 30 to 40 people. The menu is regional dishes presented in the new cuisine manor. We three, each had a different main dish, beef
chicken and seafood, each prepared and served correctly. As usual the presentation was imaginative and the service excellent. I would recommend it for visitors to Perigueux where new imaginative restaurants are much needed.

We visited this restaurant with French family after seeing good reviews on this site and our expecations were surpassed. The welcome we received from our hosts was attentive and friendly all evening. The food was creative and delicious whilst staying faithful to the excellent local produce. We would highly recommend this restaurant to both locals and visitors alike.

We found this restaurant through this site, and figured how could you go wrong with anything ranked in the top 20. We were right! It isn't necessarily in the best location, the old town up the hill was very picturesque, and while we walked to Le Rocher I would recommend a car or taxi.

Once inside the restaurant presented nicely, and has a great ambience with the open rock face forming the back wall of the room. We all loved that, it looked great and was unique.

The service was generally attentive, but that was not hard as we were on a quiet night. A relatively simple menu but a good selection of traditional french specialities, including Langoustine, Canard (Duck), Entrecote, and three fish dishes. The food was great, not one person was dissapointed, and in fact the servings would be called generous.

Between us we enjoyed Langoustine and a cooked Foie Gras as appetisers, and two fish dishes, and rack of lamb as mains. My daughter enjoyed a small entrecote after a melon starter.

Dessert was interesting - a couple of crumbles , apple and rhubarb, and sorbets, but I was served a "creme brulee" that was a chocolate ball, filled with the creme custard and then flambed in grand marnier, wild.

The wine selection was good and we had both white and red choices, both good, with help from the waiter.

The meal was reasonably good value at about 45E per peson including wine. We had a fixed price meal, plus coffees and the wine.

Since our residency in Dordogne for nearly 2 years, and eating in several restaurants in Perigueux (mostly disappointing), Le Rocher de l'Asault has definately delivered an exceptional french food that we had been missing since leaving Surrey.

My wife decided to treat me for my birthday and we were truly satisfied with the evening. We went there on a quiet weekday -service was impeccable ,decor very pleasing and ambience very relaxed and unpretentious. The chef definately deserves a special mention-each course was imaginative, well balanced and perfectly seasoned. My wife chose scollops which she described as ' i'm very envious of the chef who can cook this-simply outstanding' and I ate pigeon which was also perfectly cooked and delicious. Dessert course received a lot of 'ummmmms' and plently of it!

The wine we felt was slightly overpriced for Pecharment and containing 15% alcohol! They should advice customers of this prior to purchase. My wife suffered a slight allergy of spots on her face due to the high acohol content . Nevertheless, we could laugh about it as we had such an exceptional meal and the couple who own and run the restaurant deserve to be full everynight. As we say in the trade,' life is too short to eat rubbish food and rubbish wine'.

At 131.50 € including champagne, wine, coffee it really is a very special fine dining experience
Well done to the young couple who have recreated an imaginative and unique menu and.

We were visiting the region from California and stumbled upon one of the best meal of our lives. We always use Trip Advisor and had some really good food. We dine out a lot and everything about this restaurant was perfect. The decor was cozy, refined and gorgeous. The bathroom was pristine and romantic. We were there with our special needs son so we were hesitant that the staff may not approve of his erratic behavior, but they were extremely accommodating and kind. The food was exquisite and scrumptious. The presentation was creative and the style of cooking was different and deserving a Michelin star. We would pay a fortune to eat there again but the price was inexpensive for the amount and the quality of the food. The experience was unforgettable. It is a beautiful region and the restaurant is worth driving 1.5 hours from Bordeaux to eat. Thank you for the most amazing experience. We ordered everything on the menu and everything was outstanding. The Tarte poivre was heavenly.
