Madame est charmante et accueillante et on a bien aime notre sejour a concarneau.
We had a lovely welcome from the lovely Madame Yvonne and though the hotel may have been modern many years back it has a certain charm in its quirkiness. What made our stay so good was Madame's cheeriness chattiness and wonderful manner. She taught us a lot about the area and it's wartime history.

Thank you

Patricia (de Cornuaille en Engleterre)

This was an interesting experience, I wouldn't like to say it was bad, The Hotel Modern is, run down, situated near the quay and the moated city so it looks drab, but is central. The rooms are clean, but old very fashioned. The walls are very thin, we were shaken to have heavy knocking on our wall at 10.30 and told to stop talking. The highlights of the visit are Madame, who is tiny, elderly, smiles a lot, and talks; the other fascination is the decor or the reception/'lounge/breakfast room. It was obviously planned in the heydays of the 1920s, one can imagine the artists sitting and arguing and smoking and drinking pastis. Madame now has marine charts pinned to the walls, but the outline and colours of the building's past is still there. Worth a visit if you feel adventuous.

A modest but charming hotel, which gives you a real feel for the town of Concarneau. A delightful owner, very knowledgeable about the town's history. The hotel is perfectly placed for wandering around the port and central area.

I spent three nights here in June, 2012. The owner is charming, serves coffee that she custom grinds to suit the individual drip brewing system she uses; delicious! There is a garage, where she raises rabbits, and she is very happy to chat (in French) about the history of the hotel, which her parents bought in 1938 as a mill and converted to a hotel. It is a time capsule of "modern" as of 1962. Prices are reasonable, rooms are simple and it is convenient to the many restaurants and tourist attractions.
