Siblu Villages - Domaine de Kerlann
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 11 August 2017 via mobile

This is the first time we've been to a Sibulu Village having tried other similar chains before. Kerlann is an attractive and secluded site with plenty of facilities: we chose it for the pool complex and splash zone which are excellent fun. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment which were much better than expected, particularly the foam party night. The shop on site is very well stocked and prices are reasonable. They have properly fresh bread and pastries every morning.
The pizza takeaway service was also very good.
There are however let downs, especially compared to other campsite chains:
1. Security on site for residents is not great. Anyone could enter the site and although the entrance to the pool complex is supposed to have checks on possession of fun passes, these were hardly ever done. It would be much easier and more visible to have a wrist band system in force throughout the camp.
2. Our mobile home had numerous maintenance issues which needed fixing when we arrived. One of the toilets didn't work, a door to the main bedroom wouldn't shut, and a blind was broken, as well as a number of light bulbs which needed replacing. The staff dealt with these things helpfully when reported but it was odd they hadn't been checked before arrival.
3. The bar and communal inside areas (games room etc), as well as the central toilet/washing up area were tired and poorly maintained.
4. Our experience of the on-site restaurant was really poor. We went on "couscous night" for the special adult one dish offer, but unfortunately the quality of that one dish was really poor. The children's food was fine, but the staff were slow and totally disinterested despite the restaurant being far from full. The majority of the staff at Kerlann were great, but those in the restaurant sadly didn't have the same quality.

It's a lovely area and Kerlann is well situated. If they improved a few things it would be a very good site.

Stayed here for annual 2 week holiday. Kids had a great time. The park needs some maintenance but nothing exceptional. The pool area is well run and well maintained. Didn't book for next year but may return if nothing better turns up.

We spent a week here recently. The camp was well run and we'll staffed.

Positives: really friendly staff, most of whom spoke english, great pools with permanent competent lifeguards at each pool, shop takeaway restaurant crepe and drinks stands and laundrette. Pony riding 3 afternoons per week (€5 for 15 mins - our 4 and 7 year old loved this). Children had a great time, apart from the changeable weather.

Negative: market and laundrette prices were quite steep (compared with last year's visit to a yelloh village).

We stayed here last August 2016 for one week after booking a last minute cancellation holiday. We were very impressed with the place. There was 3 bouncy castles that our 3 yr old loved, the indoor pools are great . There was life guards on duty always. Prior we had only ever stayed with eurocamp. I really think that Siblu are better. Our mobile home was a 3 bed elegance with covered terrace, coffee maker and the mobile home seemed to work better in terms of storage and layout so we didn't feel cramped at all. We are not returning to this park this year because we are trying one of siblu's flagship park which is further south - but we struggled with this decision because we loved this place. The great things about here are the facilities for the children, the surrounding area is really quiet and has beautiful beaches every where - all within a 5 / 10 min drive. Roughly 7 minutes away is a lidl which we only realized towards the end of our holiday but it comes in super handy. The only two downfalls (because of the type we are) At night until 12am there is very loud entertainment and I am an early light sleeper !! also the wifi which is an issue everywhere France including eurocamp, and is expensive - as they say something for something. Pont aven is a beautiful village and I think on a Tuesday has a market, I highly recommend a visit. Also the takeaway on site gives big size portions so maybe check that out before ordering loads. The croissants are gorgeous in the local shop first thing in the morning.

Room Tip: Arrange a mobile home far away from the nightly entertainment

We have just returned from an 8 night stay in Domaine de Kerlann. This was our first time as a family going to France on the ferry and staying in a French holiday village. We have 4 daughters ranging in age from 4-13 yrs so we needed somewhere which catered for all.
We stayed in an Elegance mobile which was probably a little on the small side for us as a family of 6. Luckily with the fine weather and the outside terrace we had that extra space where we could sit and eat. If we were booking again we would specify the need for a larger mobile to suit our needs. Apart from that, the mobile was clean and modern and in a close location to the central area. One of the mattresses was a bit worn and probably needed updating but other than that the rest were fine.
The whole pool complex was a big hit with all of us..The 2 outdoor pools, the splash zone and the indoor pool provided hours of fun. The children loved going to the pools and the indoor pool areas were great on the few duller days . There's tennis courts, boules, place to play football , playgrounds also on site.
We were surprised by how few Irish families were here as the site was only 1 hr 40 mins from Roscoff. We did meet some Irish families but there were more French .
Our kids got involved in the kids clubs and the talent shows on site. They felt at times that there was a slightly over French focus and maybe not enough attention given to the Irish and English speaking kids. This could be seen especially at the talent show where you often had the same French children repeatedly taking the stage to perform. It's not a criticism but just something to take note of. It can be intimidating for Irish children or other English speaking children to feel part of a group or club which is a majority of French children and care is needed here.
We found the night time entertainment by the Animation team to be excellent and really enjoyable. I loved the way all the French families sat out under the marquee on the terrace watching the shows. It was of a high quality especially the Welcome Show.
The staff on site were all really helpful and friendly , from the lovely Cork girl in the kiosk to the lovely girl and guy each day at the Hut checking the passes. They were friendly and helpful.
The shop was lovely with the beautiful fresh baguettes and croissants every morning. There's a lovely take away where they make lovely pizzas and a restaurant beside it.
We got bikes included in our booking and these were a big hit with the kids especially our older two , who could have freedom to spin around.
There are so many beaches within a short drive from the site . We only got to one during our stay which was Tahiti beach and it was stunning.
Port Aven , Concarneau and Quimper are well worth a visit. We especially enjoyed an evening strolling around the walled city of Concarneau.
There's an excellent supermarket called Intermarche in Nevers which is very close by and has a huge range of things to buy.
A visit to Decathlon in Quimper is well worth a visit for sports gear but be prepared to use the credit card ! It's an absolutely massive shop with amazing sports gear.
All in all, we had a lovely holiday. It was a pleasant first time experience of the French campsite holiday. There's a nice homely feel in Domaine de Kerlann and it feels natural and authentic. Luckily we had 5 super days weather. On a wet day , you do need the car to explore the local area. We would definitely recommend it amd consider returning again.
