Having booked a ' superior' room with twin beds we were very disappointed with the size of the room. Situated at the act of the house I found it hard to recognise the word superior. The outside of the hotel was very attractive but the room, compared to others we stayed in for the same price did not measure up. And was there a lounge area ? If so we didn't find it.

Room Tip: Choose the front of hotel rooms which I assume must be larger!

We stayed here for one night and were totally charmed by it. It’s a beautiful old house with a winding central staircase and a lovely proprietor who doesn’t speak much English. Exactly what we were looking for! The breakfast was also delicious and plentiful and our room was up in the eaves overlooking the garden. Fairly basic but clean and comfy. Would absolutely go back if we are ever in the area again – and hopefully we will be!

We stayed at this delightful hotel for four nights enjoying our stay immensely. In terms of size it's not large and operates on a room and optional breakfast only. The room we had overlooked the rear garden and although a little small was perfectly functional, comfortable and clean. The garden is also open to residents and in fairness the room size is a function of the original building which seems to have been preserved in terms of character at least, on conversion to a hotel. Parking is limited on site and a word of caution! There is room for six cars at the front of the hotel but access is through the original gate which can be a little tight and impossible for larger vehicles I would suggest. There is, however, street parking as well. The hotel is situated in a quiet part of Saint Malo and is a 20 minute to half hour walk to the walled town where parking can be a "challenge". On arrival, (we actually turned up a little early), we were greeted by a charming receptionist who's English was far superior to our French and nothing seemed to be too much trouble and we felt very welcomed. Another strong plus point in our eyes. Wanting to "chill out" we lazily avoided breakfast until our final morning when we discovered what we had missed. A full French breakfast, beautifully presented and wonderfully fresh served with charm and friendliness. So a real gem of a hotel which we'll not hesitate to use again if we return to Saint Malo. The only drawbacks would be the lack of a restaurant if you wish to eat in and a lift if you have mobility difficulties. Even then we found an excellent restaurant (La Pancel) at the end of the road. As suggested in the title - a gem.

Room Tip: Room at the front may have a better outlook.

We spent 2 nights in this lovely hotel. When we arrived we were greeted immediately and were given keys to our room without any formal check-in procedure, which we found extremely refreshing after a 4 hour drive from Paris where we live. Our room overlooked the small garden and was extremely clean. My only criticism would be that there is not a coffee machine in the room, though they do provide instant coffee and tea with an electric kettle. The hotel is located about 15 minutes walking from the waterfront where there are several lovely restaurants overlooking the bay and the staff is happy to help making any reservations on your behalf. The hotel is extremely peaceful and the staff were extremely friendly and happy to assist in any way they could. I would highly recommend this hotel to someone looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful seaside town.

We stayed for 3 nights in July. We had a standard room on the first floor (2nd floor US) which was just fine - small desk with chair where I sat and read with the French balcony window open to the quiet street, high ceilings so felt more spacious, very comfortable bed, good bathroom with excellent shower/tub and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was delicious pastries/breads, yogurt, fresh squeezed OJ and the best coffee we had in Saint-Malo. The staff was wonderful and helpful with restaurant recommendations (we went to Le Bistrot La Poncel a block away TWICE it was so good). There is plenty of safe parking on the street if the tiny entrance to the parking in the hotel yard is daunting. We learned to use the bus (just a block away) for a quick, easy and fast trip to and from the walled city. There is no air conditioning - but a fan was provided on request and sufficed. The staff was brilliant! Thank you Veronique, Camilla and Fitzgerald!! Only caveat would be regarding the stairs necessary for access to the hotel lobby and the rooms. We were glad to not have too much luggage.

Room Tip: It's a quiet neighborhood so I don't think noise would be a problem in any location. Stairs...
