We spent some days here over New Year and liked the hotel a lot. Very close to sightseeing, Metro and various bus-lines. Very friendly and helpful staff. Familiar and charming, old fashioned atmosphere. Nice breakfast buffet with freshly squeezed juice, cheese, croissants etc.

The rooms are pretty as well. Obviously, the building is old, but well conditioned.

To start - I REALLY want to give this hotel 5 stars because it's history and charm is incredible. At the end I'll explain why I didn't... but if what you want to know is "should I stay here" the short answer is YES! The hotel is in one of the old train passages of Paris. This is to its advantage because it is off the main street yet you can hear the sounds of the city once you open the windows in the room. The passage this hotel is in (Passage Jouffroy) has some amazing shops (an antique bookstore, a higher-end convenience store we visited twice, a confectionery, and a couple restaurants among other things). The hotel itself is small (a few dozen rooms) but it's been open for well over 150 years and has never closed! The lobby consists of the front desk, a couch, and a piano - that's about all it has room for. It also has a chat noir (black cat) that lives here - you'll see the cat in various places throughout the public areas during your stay. I love the cat - so friendly and always willing to be pet regardless of the time of day. We were in room 310 - which consisted of a double bed and a single bed. The room was much larger than I expected - and was the largest room we had out of any hotel we stayed at in France. When you open the windows the sounds of the city are like in the movies - and so are the views of the rooftops. This will sound very American, but standing at the open windows my first thought was "the movie Ratatouille got it exactly right". The beds were comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water for the bathroom. The only downside to this hotel is that due to its age there's quite a bit of improvement that needs to be done. The paint isn't good in some areas. A couple of the lights didn't work. There was electrical tape around the light fixture in the bathroom. There's a shower nozzle but nothing on the wall to affix it - so you have to hold the shower nozzle the entire time you shower. All of these seem like relatively inexpensive improvements - and I'd imagine the hotel could charge another 20-30% per room if they made these changes. Just a suggestion. Regardless of those items, if you want a truly Parisian hotel from an era gone by, this hotel is perfect.

Room Tip: Stay on a higher floor

This is my favourite little hotel in Paris. I almost do not want to write too much about it, as it still seems to be some sort of place that not everyone knows about and therefore it is still possible to get a room. Fab location in a beautiful arcade, extra lovely with Christmas lights. Not far from the Opera, the Grands Magasins and nothing, really. Very friendly receptionists. Good, reasonable breakfast. Beware all of you with cat allergy: there is now a cat on the premises, friendly but furry.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and vary a lot in size. It is possible to ask for a larger room, if available they may even give you one.

This is our second stay at Hotel Chopin. Originally we chose the hotel due to its location and the appearance - and we were not disappointed. It is well placed for walking to key attractions in the city, or near a metro line. It is clean, quiet and friendly. Whilst it isn't a budget hotel, it feels like you are in Paris as from the facade to the room decor.
