We stayed at the Hotel Paris Rivoli over the Christmas break and it was pretty close to perfect. The hotel room itself was pretty small and standard (although we were pleasantly surprised to find such large bathrooms in Europe) but that is to be expected for a hotel in Paris with such a reasonable rate. There are two things that put the Hotel Paris Rivoli above the other Paris hotels: location and service.
For location, you are right in the heart of the Marais so you're not only surrounded by bars, shops, a Galleries Lafayette right down the street, but you are also only about 4 blocks away from the Ile Saint-Louis and the Ile de la Cite with all of their cafes. For nightlife, the Latin Quarter is right across the Seine, only about 8 blocks if you're stumbling back to the hotel after too many glasses of wine and the Intermarche across the street has a fresh-squeezed orange juice machine (along with anything else you could want) for the mornings after :) Accessing the tourist attractions is also very easy as you're right between the St. Paul and Hotel de Ville stations and a weekly Metro pass is only around 40 Euros.
For service, throughout our entire trip which included e-mails back and forth to the hotel asking for guidance on early check-in, asking for information on transportation to and from the hotel, asking for information on tourist attractions and NYE celebration schedules, every single person we came in contact with from the hotel was incredibly helpful, friendly, and patient with our almost non-existent grasp of the French language. My partner got terribly sick on our second-to-last day there and they even scheduled for a doctor to come to the room to take care of him! I wish I had gotten the name of the night manager in particular because there was nothing we asked for that he didn't provide for us.
There was only one thing that surprised us, not really a negative but just something to keep in mind if you plan on staying at the hotel: there is a do not disturb tag you can leave on your door but during our trip they came in to clean anyway. I'm not sure if that is just particular to the cleaning lady, to the hotel, or to France but be aware and make sure anything you don't want others to have access to is packed away or in the safe downstairs. We didn't care as we didn't have any valuables with us but I did feel bad because we didn't leave any Euros for the cleaning lady (who was also very nice) that first day. We tried to make up for it later in the week so hopefully the right person got the extra coins.

This is a three star hotel which means it is basic; in one of our two rooms the air conditioning could not be left on overnight because it was too noisy; in the other the basin would not drain. But those were minor inconveniences. The hotel is in a superb location handy to metro stations, shops and restaurants and the staff who all speak English went out of their way to be helpful. Overall it was a good stay.

Nicely located, clean rooms, very friendly personnel. Breakfast is nice, better of several places you can find around. They gave us some suggestions about where to eat and visit and everything they told us was accurate. In particular the tips on where to have dinner were great. Mattresses and pillows are good, a lot of hot water in the shower, even too hot... if we will come back to Paris we will return here

The rooms are small by American standards, but the AC is FABULOUS!!!! Really nice bathroom. Small reception area, but nice breakfast area and really good breakfast!!! Easy walking distance to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, etc.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are very quiet.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, as our travel plans were interrupted unexpectedly and we needed to find an alternate lodging for one of our nights in Paris. We chose Hotel Paris Rivoli based on the convenient location in the Marais neighborhood. The room was very small (among the smallest we've stayed at in all of Europe) and dark. We spent very little time in the room, as we had a very full itinerary in Paris, but the room was not the place to come home to we had expected from photos and other reviews. On the positive side, the bathroom was large (almost the size of the entire room) and clean. Breakfast was included in the room rate, which was a plus, and had the basic essentials (pastries, yogurt, juice).
