Absolutely faultless evening! The 3 course set menu for €20 was extraordinary - each course was fantastic. I had a goats cheese terrine to start, stuffed sea bream for main, and cheese for dessert. The first 2 were seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the cheese was out of this world! Drinks were good too, and the service was friendly and well judged. We'll be back next time in Montpellier!

A hot Saturday evening in June, actually the night of the National Festival of Music. We picked this place because it looked nice and had a traditional menu (the Poule au pot, of course being on it).

It was pleasant enough, though service was quite slow, even though there were only a few diners. Menu was OK, but my partner was disappointed that the Poule au pot could only be had by prior order: doubly irritated that we hadn’t been told this when we booked in person earlier in the day.

Kir was expensive (€6 compared to an average of €3.50 in the rest of the town), but overall price was OK. I had ½ a pig’s foot (fine, but too greasy – and I like pigs’ feet), partner had a cooked camembert. Mains were magret de canard for me and gambas grillée. The magret was nice, but the portion was very small. Likewise, the gambas numbered only 3! Puddings were ok, Chocolate croquillant and tarte tatin (very ordinary, apples were a mush).
It was alright, but I wouldn’t go again.

My husband and I attempted to try this restaurant. I say "attempted" because we left before placing an order. We asked for a table, and received a lot of attitude from the hostess because we did not make a reservation. We were seated in a completely empty restaurant. We waited for 20-30 minutes while the server was on a personal call. She didn't bother to ask for our order or check if we wanted something to drink. We decided to leave because if the service was that poor with an empty restaurant, we were worried it would only get worse once other guests came...

As this was our last night in Montpellier we wished for something a little special. We were one of the first people in the restaurant. A worrying sign was that there only apperared to be one person taking orders, serving food, and preparing the drinks orders. The restaurant was full (40 covers). Service went from mediocre to non existant. People started to leave fed up with the lack of service. 3 hours later after only having a Starter and Main course we could stand it no longer and we left. The propriotaire wanted to charge us the full amount despite having no 'plat de fromge' or desert. No apologies made just excuses. Luckily we can speak French so we told him what we thought. Probablyt the worst service we have ever had.................... However the food we did receive was quite good !

This is a VERY casual establishment, so allow plenty of time while the (admittedly friendly) staff get cranked up to the idea of working. Our food, a north African paella, was actually quite tasty and the portions generous. We were offered a free brandy at the end of the meal, though we hadn't made any complaint. Not the worst place to go if you want a taste of Algerian style cooking. However, there are better places around for similar money.
