Definitely the best, most creative and most accomplished chef. It's always a pleasure to enjoy a meal at Ivan Vautier's restaurant, be it for a special menu on a special occasion or just for a lighter - but delicious and very refined - lunch.

Always pleasure to dine here. Great "menu degustation". Modern and inventive. We love this place. The menus change quite often. Not in the best part of town, but clearly worth the drive (there is a parking). If you want to drink local try the excellent ciders (from Domaine Dupont). We tried many degustation menus (lobster, scallops, seasonal..) always a great pleasure. Excellent service

Apparently the table had about a dozen heads of State around it during the D Day celebrations. The food is great I had John Dory "Chefs De Etat 2014" one of the dishes served on that occasion. Followed this with French sweetbreads and the raw & cooked raspberries which were an 11 out of 10 so very good. 92% top three!

Staying at the hotel Ivan Vautier (very nice though incongruously located next door to a Midas muffler shop) we decided to have dinner at the restaurant. It would be our first experience at a Michelin star rated eatery. It could be our last.

My wife and I are not naive travelers or diners. We understand and appreciate quality, in food and service, in expensive restaurants and casual places. We have probably never been so disappointed in a meal.

It wasn't that the food wasn't good, although it was hardly outstanding. One course featured escargot that had the texture of pencil erasers, another a small piece of wild duck whose provenance was proven by the shot I found in mine. Nothing was memorable. The presentation was interesting, the quantities molecular. But the experience, which would have been dismal for an average fine-dining restaurant, was inexcusable in the restaurant Ivan Vautier purports to be.

We were shown to our table promptly at our reserved time, in a room dominated by a multigenerational party of ten or so, featuring several small noisy children. We spent a lot of years eating with children, but not at expensive restaurants. About 25 minutes after being seated, the waitress came to bring us a wine list and take our order. The service didn't improve. We poured or own wine in the long periods of loneliness between courses. We left the uncrowded restaurant at 11:30 - a long time for a 4-course "chef's choice" dinner.

So a few words of advice. To the Michelin folks: Pretty doesn't necessarily mean tasty. To the traveler: Patience isn't always rewarded. To the IV hotel guest: There are better options than the restaurant downstairs.

We stayed in Caen for two nights as a base point to do the Normandy beaches and Mont St Michel. We had booked the hotel to serve as the base point.

The real surprise, and a pleasant one at that, was the restaurant. It is 5 star…it has a Michelin star, so the quality of the food was exceptional. We did the “let the chef surprise you” set of courses, which was fun. Obviously, there is a cost to a meal of that quality, but no doubt a fraction of what a multi-course meal at a Michelin rated restaurant in Paris would cost.
