“Not the place for a relaxed lunch...”

Having called to ascertain that there was a table available which could accommodate a pushchair it seemed reasonable to assume that some child-friendly menu option might be on offer. Nope... The waiter, clearly yet to take the client-friendliness course, refused to countenance our suggestion that the kitchen might be able to produce some pasta or similar to keep the little one happy, and referred us instead to the set menus. Most sub-two-year-olds of my acquaintance don't normally lunch on pig's ear salad, so that was something of a problem - only resolved, in the end, by two of our group decamping with said infant in search of something more suitable, provoking the countermove from the waiter that if they didn't return PDQ it would be too late for them to be served (it was 1:25).
They chose not to do so, and our waiter ostentatiously cleared their place settings....

The now depleted family group rather wished we had followed their example when our orders appeared. The pig's ear salad (yes, we tried it!) was finely sliced cartilage in a slightly glutinous spicy sauce garnished with croutons, the asparagus of the overlarge white variety, not tasting of much at all, and the fish soup (allegedly "like Bouillabaisse") an odd concoction of fish pieces complete with bones swimming in a tomato-ish juice bulked out with potatoes and topped by a pair of langoustines containing precious little meat. Not what you might savour in Marseilles. We passed on the offer of dessert or coffee and made our escape to a much more welcoming hostelry down the road which offered both a warm welcome and excellent espressos.

Although this establishment is well reviewed elsewhere it's clearly not a place for lunch - only two other tables were occupied at the time of our visit, so perhaps the negative word has spread. Honfleur is crammed with welcoming eateries; avoid this one unless you want your visit to a delightful town to be memorable for the wrong reasons.

This restaurant was recommended by the land lady of the place we were staying in Honfleur. It was a good quality meal and an enjoyable experience. The service, food and wine all met our expectations.

We had a lovely meal and there was so much to enjoy. Some of our dishes were superb, the service exemplary and the decor fantastic. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars was that a couple of our dishes were over salted and the seasoning got in the way of the flavours.

Nothing to say about the fact the chef is a professional and that the restaurant is most probably a must in Honfleur but I have some remarks:
- Chef, your dishes are excellent but it's because they are excellent that you don't need such frills! It is honestly counter productive
- ok everything is fresh but service is long (even if announced)
- sometimes it is better to take care about guest than cleaning tabkea because it's end of service...

I walked past this restaurant and it was really busy, so went in and booked a table for the following night. After reading a few recent terrible reviews, we were dubious, but thought we'd give it a go. Were we glad we did! The staff were so helpful, the meal outstanding! (I had the chefs special lobster) and the dessserts were equally high standard.
The chefs seemed genuinely pleased with our praise. Loved it.
