We stayed at the hotel as part of a Gate 1 Travel tour group. The bus had to park outside the old city walls, and we walked to the hotel. That was fine for us, but could be a problem for some. The hotel is right in the heart of the action - on Palace Square with its many shops and restaurants, and adjacent to the Palace of the Popes. All of the hotel rooms are different. We liked our room, but our shower leaked and got the bathroom floor very wet. The breakfast area was not well-designed - there are many steps to negotiate, and the area with the food and drinks was very congested.

Pro:
1. Great Location, close to Palais des Papes, Shopping ares, and walk distance to train station.
2. Staff are friendly and helpful.
3. Cozy business center can hang out.
Cons:
1. Elevator is small
2. Room is small. We can only have space for one luggage open.
3. Shower over bath tub. Water spilled out on the bathroom floor easily.
4. Sound proof is bad due to Hotel is old, I can hear people next room talk all the time.

Right next to the Palace of the Pope and a city square. On the other side are many restaurants and shops. Hotel was comfortable and staff pleasant. Two elevators were separated by a landing. The central one was alway busy and kinda slow. The second was the one we used was better. WiFi was iffy as it was all throughout our stays in France. Sometimes it was fine, other times not so good.
Avignon is a grand old town and everything was within a short, but hilly, walking distance. Good location of this hotel.

The room tariff was reasonable but I expected more from the Mercure brand. The hotel needs an upgrade in some areas such as the flooring. Breakfast was reasonably good and the twin room had sufficient space and was quiet.

His is not my first stay in mercure as you may noticed in my previous review to mercure Inverness. I did not expect for anything like large room, gorgeous street view but a convenient location with services on par with the baseline for mercure. But I really got disappointed when we found rude housekeeping which made a whole pack of my wife’s compressed masks deformed and useless. Furthermore, beyond professional smile, there is nothing making me feel at home in mercure even if I am long been member of Accor club. Nothing really terrible but nothing really good. Btw the “garden view“ of my room looks like unpleasant, which faced to some dark and spooky rooms.

Dear Bo C,

Thank for posting a comment on TripAdvisor! We wish your stay could have been better! You are mentionning a "garden view" and it makes me think you stayed a the other Mercure Hotel of Avignon: Mercure Pont d'Avignon since we don't have a garden at Mercure Palais des Papes.

We hope you to stay at our place for your next stay in Avignon.

Best regards,
