We had a 3 night Summer Break here in a Superior Room,The room overlooked the square, was clean comfortable, a good size for a centrally located hotel and quiet with effective air conditioning. The breakfast was good and the hot dishes varied from day to day. There was always fresh orange juice available and I particularly liked trying items from the table of local foods. The Hotel is in an ideal location in the square where there is plenty of activity but not noisy at night ,a few metres from the Palais de Papes, the pedestrianised shopping streets, and an easy walk to the bridge and the start point for boat trips. The restaurant adjacent to the hotel is good value and not as tacky as some of the others in the square. The hotel were happy to arrange for a taxi to meet us at the TGV station and provide advice on local attractions.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a Gate 1 Travel tour group. The bus had to park outside the old city walls, and we walked to the hotel. That was fine for us, but could be a problem for some. The hotel is right in the heart of the action - on Palace Square with its many shops and restaurants, and adjacent to the Palace of the Popes. All of the hotel rooms are different. We liked our room, but our shower leaked and got the bathroom floor very wet. The breakfast area was not well-designed - there are many steps to negotiate, and the area with the food and drinks was very congested.

Pro:
1. Great Location, close to Palais des Papes, Shopping ares, and walk distance to train station.
2. Staff are friendly and helpful.
3. Cozy business center can hang out.
Cons:
1. Elevator is small
2. Room is small. We can only have space for one luggage open.
3. Shower over bath tub. Water spilled out on the bathroom floor easily.
4. Sound proof is bad due to Hotel is old, I can hear people next room talk all the time.

Right next to the Palace of the Pope and a city square. On the other side are many restaurants and shops. Hotel was comfortable and staff pleasant. Two elevators were separated by a landing. The central one was alway busy and kinda slow. The second was the one we used was better. WiFi was iffy as it was all throughout our stays in France. Sometimes it was fine, other times not so good.
Avignon is a grand old town and everything was within a short, but hilly, walking distance. Good location of this hotel.

The room tariff was reasonable but I expected more from the Mercure brand. The hotel needs an upgrade in some areas such as the flooring. Breakfast was reasonably good and the twin room had sufficient space and was quiet.
