I had the misfortune of booking a room in
this hotel for the time trial day of the
Tour.A few days before they informed me
that it would be difficult to reach the
hotel on race day.After enquiry I was
given two suggestions: one to arrive
before 10 which could not be done
as travel arrangements had been made
and the other to use a ferry which turned out to be impossible as the Taxii drivers
refused to go there.No other practical
assistance was provided.

We ended up dragging our cases to where
the road was blocked and then spending
6 hours wating for the road to open.This
latter part I could accept:we saw the Tour
live and on TV.However we then had to
drag our cases uphill in the heat to the
hotel.How difficult could it have been
to make some arrangements even
if only with the luggage?

I received an email mail so communication
is no excuse.The communication was too
late to change the booking.

It appears to be an uncaring attitude by a big chain who will take your money
and not give a fig thereafter.

On business trips to Marseille I always stay in the Vieux Port. The people are great, the location is superb and the views are exceptional. A roof top terrace to die for, easy access around the port, good food, good service, its my go to place when working in the region.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms or rooms overlooking the port are best and there are lots of them.

Fabulous hotel. the view the people the beds..... Have booked to go back.

Sofitel definitely have the most comfortable beds, there was a problem with the booking and the booking agent booked 2 rooms for myself and my wife , the hotel sorted the problem with charm and grace

The breakfast was wonderful

It's July, it's boiling hot and Marseille is bustling down by the Old Port but here, with the best breakfast view of any hotel in Marseille you will find a cool oasis with high quality service.

Try to request a room that doesn't overlook the swimming pool (which belongs to the Novotel next door) as they have had noisy music till 11:30pm every night. Properly noisy music that you can clearly hear the words being sung. If you're out till late and don't care, that's fine but if you're with children, it'll be very irritating indeed.

The swimming pool is warm, adequate number of loungers, fresh towels etc but you do have to walk through a mini bar place that's part of the Novotel.

Get to breakfast before 9am and you'll probably have the place almost to yourselves. It's a wonderful choice of foods and to sit on the terrace and see across the water, yachts and watercraft, fluttering flags of the old fort from high up on the 7th floor is a piece of heaven. We were recommended this view by friends in Paris and they were right.
