I spent the weekend in Lyon and as circumstances would have it, it was Saint Patrick's Day. The streets were crowded with rowdy, green-clad, drunken college students. Lucky for me, Mon Hotel Particular is located on a side street, tucked away on what I later came to discover in the light of day was one of the most beautiful streets in Lyon's Old Town I'd ever seen. Checking in required me to text message the manager upon my arrival to the city and by the time I arrived in the area, I was greeted on the street by Victor, who led me to the Hotel's entrance. A key-fob entry system allows easy access into the building. I was taken up to my apartment, shown around the place and given instructions on how to operate the thermostats, cable TV, and internet. The apartment was clean, spacious, modern and perfectly quiet. The bed was firm and comfortable. The kitchen had every basic thing a person could ever need to cook a meal, although I only ever made coffee and toast. Lyon is a remarkable city and I feel like I'd be hard pressed to find any better accommodations than Mon Hotel Particular. For the price, for the location, the convenience and for the comfort...it ticks all the boxes. I'll be staying there every time I return to Lyon.

Room tip: call them directly to discuss the different room options and availability.

Mon Hotel Particulier stands for a number of nicely furnished apartments (with different sizes and prices) in the heart of the Vieux Lyon. My experience has been overall pleasant: the apartment was really spacious, had an interesting touch, a comfortable bed and was conveniently located. I would give the place 4 stars if it wasn't for some drawbacks that shouldn't be found in such a great location. First of all, my apartment looked clean on the surface, but not in depth. Some cooking tools (pan, coffee maker, cloth) were simply impossible to use due to wear and tear. The owners, however, entirely replaced some of the items, which I really appreciated, though sometimes I had the impression that the language barrier was used as a shortcut not to fully address some issues. The washing machine was not doing its work properly and I had to hand-wash the dishes again, and the trash bin in the kitchen was way too small. These are minor drawbacks, but the prices charged justify a service that should be almost perfect and that should ensure a smooth communication flow. I hope that my review provides leeway for improvement, as I will be happy to give MHP another chance when travelling to Lyon.

We normally stay in the new part of Lyon near Bellecour but decided to venture to the old part.

The streets are cobbled and a little hilly if you have problems walking but this apartment was located a few minutes walk from the river Saone, in a little cobbled square full of restaurants, cafes and little shops.

There is no direct parking outside but there is across the main road along the river front. I was approx. €20 per day.

We were met by Jean Luc who explained everything, gave us details on Lyon and explained checkout process.

The apartment had all we needed for our few days and was warm and well equipped. The bed was comfortable but we would have liked more pillows. I'm sure if we had contacted Jean Luc he would have sorted but we survived.

The stone work of the building with exposed beams added to the charm.

We absolutely loved our week in Mon Hotel Particulier. Now that we have stayed there, we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else when visiting Lyon or Vieux Lyon.

We took a taxi from the airport, and texted our arrival to Jean Luc before he met us at Place du Change, from there he helped us with our luggage to our apartment. We passed through an old wooden door, a wrought iron door, and up an ancient stone circular staircase, before coming to our doorway. The whole experience brought us back in time.

The front of our apartment (bedroom and living rooms) looked out onto the main "street" Rue St. Jean, but the windows let no sound in at all. This made for great privacy and sleeping. The back side of the apartment (our kitchen and dining area) looked out over a beautiful shared courtyard.

There was a washing machine (soap they supplied) and a clothes drying rack, and iron for our use, which came in handy for us. The kitchen was fitted with a dishwasher (soap supplied) and all of the modern amenities. The shower offered a rain shower and handheld device and was large and modern. This was great, especially for my tall husband. They had a hair blow dryer available, which was great for me!

Our particular place had our bedroom with a queen sized bed, dresser, side table, and closets, a living room with fireplace, big screen TV (we didn't watch), coffee table, comfy couch and cozy chair, a kitchen and dining area to seat 6, as well as a sitting room with pull-out bed and drop down desk. For just the two of us, it was a great space to come together or have our own private space for time to read or relax. Their free internet offers an excellent connection. There were sliding "barn doors" to open up 3 of the rooms to form a large L shaped room.

The bed linens were fresh and cozy, we slept so well, which is very important when we were trekking all around the city by day, so this was essential and appreciated. We are fussy sleepers that can be troubled with back aches in the wrong bed. We had no back aches sleeping here, only restful nights. There were extra pillows and quilts in the storage closet.

It was great to have the kitchen since we ended up buying fruit, cheese, and yogurt at the market a few doors down. This was our daily breakfast. There was nice strong coffee and tea provided. If we had wanted to cook, they had all that we needed. And they had a beautiful selection of wine glasses if we had wanted to enjoy a local bottle at home. But the food all around Lyon and Vieux Lyon is too good to pass up, if you ask me, and I was on vacation, so cooking was not happening with me!

The entire apartment was modern and tastefully decorated. It was comfortable and had ample storage space for us to unpack our things and really live there for the week.

Jean Luc was over-the-top helpful with our luggage storage at the end of our trip, as we had a train out in the evening and check-out was at noon. He was available to us via text, call, or email. And he made sure we knew we could call on him if need be. He gave us pointers on our visit: sights to see and places to eat. You would consider him a friend, he is that kind and cheerful.

Vieux Lyon is so charming and we loved the old world feel and decor. Besides it was an easy walk over the bridge to visit the modern city of Lyon. We even walked all the way from our apartment over the two rivers to eat at Les Halles de Lyon-Paul Bocuse and back. (But next time, I would want to go the Les Halles early on in our trip, totting my shopping bag for supplies!) And on another afternoon we walked over the one bridge to and around the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon (to see the Matisse exhibit and all of the other amazing art they have!). But since we climbed the stairs and walked the ancient roads up to the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere and the ancient Roman ruins several days in a row, it was best for us to stay in Vieux Lyon. And we were thrilled to stay at Mon Hotel Particulier because of it!

We love to travel to new places, but should we return, we will try another one of their apartments sprinkled around Vieux Lyon, just for the experience, but we trust it will be just as wonderful as this time. In our opinion, Mon Hotel Particulier is one of the best experiences of the city!!!!

First said it was fantastic.
Secondly very hard to find. Is it really hotel or a conglomerate of apartments in the magnificent 16th century buildings in the vieux part of the city. Who cares i had a bedroom and large living room and kitchen with full facilities in the best part of Lyon.
Just a tip for when you arrive at the designated address and are confronted by a 16th century wooden door that won't open go back to the cafe on the corner " Le Rocambole" and ask for the owner.
You won't be disappointed.
