You need to plan time to take the furnicular to the top of the mountain for a chance at 360 degree views. It is well worth the time and effort. If you plan ahead, pack a lunch and plan to sunbathe at the summit then buy ice cream at the restaurant for dessert. If you are lucky, the wind will be just right and you can watch the parasailers take off and float gently on the breeze. For me, this was a do not miss experience.

We drove up following the signs. There is also a bus service.4 euros per person for a 3,5 minute ride with the funicular and back down. On the top there is a restaurant -coffee shop overlooking the city with a great view of Karlsruhe and Gaggenau. The paragliders take off here making the view even more amazing.Lots of walking paths through the forest, you can walk done but we prefered a small walk and down the same way

We enjoyed our trip to the top of Mt. Merkur. We had lunch on the pleasant terrace, walked around a bit seeing the hand-gliders, beautiful huge rhododendron bushes, and sat enjoying the views. Pretty enjoyable and inexpensive outing.

The mountain is over 650 meters high and offers amazing views over the black forest and surrounding countryside from the summit. You can reach the top by walking or take the funicular (Merkurbergbahn) which is easier. You can also take the funicular on the way up and walk-down to enjoy the views from the trails.

At the top is an observation and communications tower with a modern radio mast, walking paths, a play area, a restaurant and large lawns. Hiking trails lead down to various attractions at the bottom and offer panoramic views.

It can be pretty windy at the top which makes it ideal for para gliding. Of course it can be pretty cold as well (some trees were displaying fall colors in June). So make sure you are appropriately dressed.

Although slightly off the beaten path, the mountain offers excellent views and is definitely not to be missed.

This is a bit off the beaten path, but should be a part of any visitor’s stay in Baden-Baden. In addition to magnificent views of the area, there is an interesting display of the local rock types surrounding the tower at the top.

The price of a cable car ride is relatively modest, but must be paid in cash. The small restaurant at the top is also cash only and modestly priced and there are also picnic tables available for those who want to bring their own food. For families that picnic or just want to spend some time at the top, there is a swing set, a see-saw and a neat slide (which our 34 yr. old son enjoyed several times).

Often, there will be an opportunity to view paragliders up close and personal.

If you are inclined to walk up or down, a one way ticket can be purchased, although at the bottom you will be sold a two way ticket by default unless you ask.

All in all, well worth a few hours deviation.
