We enjoyed a two-night return visit to the Torbräu, well situated just inside the Isartor entrance to the Old Town and only a few hundred metres from Mairenplatz. There's an S-Bahn station outside the door (with a direct service to the airport) and the hotel is within walking distance of much of what a tourist will want to see in Munich.

Versions of the hotel have been on the site for nearly 600 years. The current manifestation is a modern building with minimalist wood-accented décor. Curiously, the elevator stops seven steps above the ground floor.

Our 'superior' room was spacious and well-equipped, as was its shower-only bathroom. All the staff we met were pleasant and professional. WiFi is free, fast and simple to use. The laundry service is quick and good value.

Breakfast is a well-presented and comprehensive buffet, and it's possible to take it outdoors in the summer.

The Torbräu is not a luxury destination but it's a straightforward four star with an excellent location for tourists. Recommended.

An absolutely amazing hotel. The most helpful staff I’ve ever come across! They could not help us enough, so impressive. Very clean, fantastic location, absolutely delicious breakfast, lovely room. I highly recommend staying here.

Very nice location inn Munich City centre. The hotel is compact but very clean. Our room was slightly smaller than I expected and I asked at reception if there was anything else larger available. The manager was very helpful and show me a marginally larger room. The light was better in the original room so we stayed there. I was impressed however that the effort was made without question to try and meet the request. The room itself was very clean. The other facilities and common areas were very nice and overall it was a great hotel for a weekend break.

Centrally located hotel in Munich city centre. I was able to walk down to the main train station (about 20mins) and a short walk up to Marienplatz for the Christmas Markets. Friendly staff and nice appointed single room. Would stay again.

Very well run hotel near the Tower in the old City wall. It began life as the brewery (brau) near the towr (tor) it is now a very nice hotel near public transport, restaurants, coffee houses (Kafee Guys) and even a grocery store with a deli. In the morning there is an excellent breakfast buffet that will start you well on your day. The restaurant next door is also excellent if you don't want to walk far. You can easily see the sights on foot -- cathedrals, VictalesMarkt, Rathalle, town clock, kristKindlMarkt and rulling family compound and retail shopping.

Room Tip: Decide whether you'd rather look out on the busy street or a quiet parking lot.
