Service was attentive and courteous. The hotel was elegant and charming. Munich is one of our favorate cities and no doubt our experence at The Charles certainly has a large part to do with our feelings. A class hotel.

Top hotel, superb room, good service. Breakfast has everything you want. Helpful staff. Really, there is nothing I could say a bad word about. It's the way it should be.

We would be hard pressed to say what was best: the fabulous room, the incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive staff, or the superb restaurant. We loved everything about this hotel, from the moment the bellman opened our car door to the moment we were bid goodbye.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get the upgrade to a superior room with a balcony overlooking the Botanical Gardens.

I stayed for 4 nights at The Charles in May with my husband and toddler son. And this was our best hotel of our 15 day Europe trip. The location is spot on, with the Central station right at your doorstep and Marienplatz a pleasant 12-15 minute walk. It was very easy to catch trains for day trips as the main station was within a 5 minute walk. The tram runs by as well very close to the hotel. Next the rooms are really spacious. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and the bathroom, and this was the most basic room - Classic King. I'd also requested for a rollaway bed for my son and that fit in comfortably still leaving plenty of space to move about. One lovely gesture was the daily treats left in the room by the housekeeping staff. From chocolates to cheesecake to fresh fruit, we were pampered each day. And they left the yummiest double chocolate cookies & milk for my son which totally floored me. They even had a mini bathrobe, mini slippers and a coloring book with crayons for my son! I have not seen any other 5 star hotel pamper kids like this. The king bed was huge and really comfortable as well. The best part about the hotel though was the service. From the concierge to the reception to the housekeeping staff, the service was perfect everywhere. They remembered us by name and greeted us every time we passed by the lobby. I would only stay here if I am back in Munich anytime. I think this was the best hotel I've experienced in all my Europe trips so far - both in terms of the size of the rooms and the personalized service and attention to detail. Kudos to The Charles and keep up the good work!
Btw, we did not take breakfast from the hotel as we found it expensive, but there's a coffee fellows down the road walking towards the central station which serves yummy bagels.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms should be equally good

All right, I am going to get a grip and start positively. The hotel is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious, well appointed and very clean. The location is also a plus. However, with the exception of the bellmen, the service/attitude of the staff needs some work. I will give you one example to illustrate this point. One afternoon during our stay I went out for a few hours with my wife deciding to rest and stay behind. She went to get an iced tea at a nearby Starbucks. When she returned, the maid was cleaning the room. She went downstairs for a few minutes to give the maid a chance to finish the room. She sat down in the bar area (there is really no other seating as the lobby area is relatively small). Staff in the bar told her "no outside drinks" in a very insensitive/rude manner even though she told them that she was a hotel guest who would only be there for a few minutes. She could not even wait outside since it was raining that day. So, my question is, "Does this sound like a friendly and caring staff at over $300 per night"?
