We were in Rothenberg last week.
This hotel was great. We planned on only one night and wound up staying two nights.
I've read all the reviews and the comments are correct... the rooms are small (it's Europe, we loved our rooms. The first night we had 3 rooms, one for my cousin and his wife, one for our daughters and one for us).
There isn't any air conditioning, (i wasn't expecting AC), we opened the windows and imagined what it was like 500 years or more so.

The TV in our room was small too! We didn't plan on watching TV, as we enjoyed the evening walk around town with the night watchman.

My daughter was sick and it was a safe hotel to leave her in the room, while we were out.

The owners were very nice to us and allowed us to leave our car parked while we walked around town. They also accommodated us with an extremely late check in the first night.

Breakfast was traditional morning breakfast for Germany. There was plenty of food and you weren't limited to just one trip if you were still hungry.
In fact they asked if everything was ok or if we needed more.

Our rooms were clean and simple again traditional. Shower in the first room, tub in the second room.

I will recommend this hotel to others and when we go back we will stay here again.

I guess everyone travels with different expectations. We really loved staying here in all ways! This hotel met all of our expectations and more!

As for the paying to use the rest room in the cafe area. I turned the corner and saw that, but if you stayed in the hotel or you are a customer you go up front and get a token to go in. It was also very clean!

The price for the hotel was also just right!

We didn't use their internet as we paid for daily use from our phone provider.

Room was clean but place is old and tired. Great breakfast. Friendly people. Our GPS took us to the bakery where you go and check in so it was a bit strange, but once we parked ( on side street beside) we got in and found the room. We went on the night watchman tour and got lost coming back in the dark so beware

Well what can you say about this fairy tale town. Our second and probably final trip. The hitel was terrific and tge location superb. Great young girl greeted us and was a pleasure. Secure parking outback of main entrance. Walking distance to everything in town. Still a charming place to vusut abd act tge tourist. Don't miss out. If you have 1-2 extra dats, head over to Dinkelsbuew (sp) for a similar experience.

This Hotel was extremely disappointing. The hotel is clearly old and severely out of date. Our Quadruple room was tiny and there was a queen bed and two singles for 4 people – almost no room for anything else including luggage and a real struggle to dodge the beds in the room. It appears that nothing has been done to modernize the rooms in this hotel since the 80’s. We were led to believe (Hotels.com) that the hotel had a shower only, flat screen TV, and free Wi-Fi to name a few. In actual fact (see pictures), the room had an old style bathtub with a shower attachment (no where to hang the shower head up high and water went everywhere), older 80’s style picture tube TV, and the Wi-Fi (hotspot) was non-existent (each occupant of the room is given a specific password) and I don’t know how many times (several dozen) each one of us was bumped off the wifi – and each time you have to re-enter in the password to get back on. The bedding was old and stained (see pic). The location is very good and parking is free albeit you have to hope when you get back from the days exploring that there’s still a space available – otherwise I would have given this a 0/5, its that bad.

Room Tip: 2nd floor was quiet - there is no A/C so on hot days its pretty tough in the room

We stayed two nights, lovely old world hotel. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Included continental breakfast was fantastic! Fresh bread, meats, cheeses, fruit. Ok coffee. We loved the location, right through the gallows gate (I think that's right). We were just a few hundred meters from the wall, and short walk to the marketplace. We really felt at home and didn't want to leave. Price wise, it was a bit high, but you have the convenience of staying inside the walls. Parking was an additional €10 a day, but we'll worth it as we did not move our car once in the three days we stayed...walking is the best way to get around. Overall, we would most definitely stay at Hocher Hotel again.
