This one is a small bit out of the city but a good museum if you have the time to go here (and cheaper than most). There are 3 floors of information about the Stasi. It’s informative and interesting with many photos and artefacts from that time

the old stasi HQ with lots of info. about the place and people involved. some interesting stuff here such as recording equipment built into a door and mini camera equipment - if interested in the history you may need a bit of time to read all the info.

Here one learns of the intense oppression in East Germany for many years. Everyone was spied upon, and now everyone has a dossier. You'll find the huge files here as well as the torture chambers. Germany traded one horror for another. Shocking.

This is a huge museum with lots of exhibits. Travelled with a 10 year old and 13 year old who are well travelled and eager to learn. There was a lot of information but presented in a dull way. The English tour was more of a lecture, not designed to engage children. After standing for the first 23 minutes we broke away from the tour. A shame, because my youngest had a lot of basic questions about the division of Germany and why people couldn’t fly to the West and escape, which we did our best to answer ourselves.

This was my second visit to this excellent museum. It is a simple museum in terms of layout. This is because the building is as it was before reunification - the offices of the GDR leaders and the Stasi within the large complex of government buildings.

It is incredible - and chilling - to see what lengths the Stasi went to in spying and informing on its citizens. The museum has informative and detailed content in German and English.
