This Spanish restaurant was recommended by local and it did not disappoint. Small, cozy establishment has excellent selection of tapas, seafood and libations - beer and wine are very good. Highly recommend this place in a cool neighborhood!

There is my new review about the restaurant El EspaNol - der Spanier. Tapas and wine are good, very good choice, but the slaff is bit slower. I can recommend this place

A lot of the food is here is less tapas than various dishes served in small portions in tapas dishes; nevertheless, my husband and I enjoy the food a lot, especially the "jalapeno poppers" (that's not what they're called, but that's essentially what they are) and lamb with "avocado sauce" (now that actually IS called that, but it's essentially guacamole). They have good wine and lots of outdoor seating beneath trees and umbrellas - a really beautiful place to be in warm weather.

Unfortunately, the service isn't great. Most of the servers are pleasant and sometimes even outgoing, but it's clear there aren't enough of them. It takes a while to order and receive your food, so prepare to be here a while.

If you have the time and the cash, this is a nice place to lunch outdoors.

The restaurant looked busy and fun - so we decided to take drinks & a meal here. It took nearly a half hour for the waitress to come get our drink order.,,and trust me they weren't delivered quickly. Once she delivered the drinks, she rushed off without asking for our order. We had to assume she'd be right back to take our meal order. We couldn't wave anyone down to help us. Clearly they are very understaffed. We saw one waitress mixing drinks behind the bar and then rushing off to tables. It must have been another 1/2 hour before the waitress came. And she told us it would be at least another 50 minutes for them to serve us tapas plates we might order because they were backed up in the kitchen. The restaurant was busy - but it didn't seem THAT busy. She looked relieved when we said we'd just pay for the drinks and leave. On the positive side, workers in Germany are paid fair wages so they aren't completely dependent on their tips for survival. On the other hand, in the case of El Espanol, we received no service. There are so many other restaurants in this Neustadt area of Dresden. Pick another one.

After a long day of sightseeing in Neue and Altstadt, and enjoying the NRB festival, we were ready for drinks and dinner. We chose this place, on an energetic block in Neustadt. They had outdoor seating for soccer enthusiasts to watch the Euro 2016 matches (something we saw everywhere in Germany during our time there---fun!). We chose to sit indoors, though, as we wanted a respite from a long day. What seemed like a perfect place turned into a complete debacle. We sat down around 8:45 p.m. Finally around 9:00 we were able to get a server's attention, and order drinks. From then on, we were simply ignored. By a quarter to ten, we flagged down someone, and were told that it would be a half hour to 45 minutes from the time we ordered until we would even see food! We said, no, that was too long. At that point, we got the best service we had since entering: the server slapped the bill down....and seemed genuinely relieved that there would be one less table to deal with! In fairness, it was clear that the servers were working very hard that night----going in and out with platters of food and drink for the hordes outside watching the soccer match. The place was packed inside as well. But to that I respond: failure of management to properly staff for the crush of business. This was the worst restaurant experience of our eight days in Germany.
