I can only concur with other reviewers if you're in Dresden this is a must see. I found the ticket selection confusing. There about 7 different options but I decided to buy the 12 Euro ticket which I'm glad I did.
It took me over 3 hours to look around 2 floors of amazing artifacts which the King's of Saxony had collected. I also took the audio guide tour which gave me additional facts about the exhibits but you don't have to bother with this as the information is written in English.

We have seen unbelievably unique royal jewels, small items with precious jems and life from the history of Saxon Kingdom. We were amazed on how and where the objects were kept and were protected until today as the city was badly hit by the bombings of Worl War 2 ( the last 2 days of the war !!! )

First you have to decide what parts of this castle you want to see and decide from about 12 choices for tickets and prices. Read the selections in the courtyard before you get in line for any ticket, unless you're going to buy an overall 2-day pass to everything. Be warned, however, day-passes will not let you in to any exhibit twice. You can't see part of an exhibit, leave, and come back into it--at least not theoretically. There are rooms of arms and armor, and guns, and arquebuses, daggers, and the like. A great exchibit of Turkish military apparatuses, some on model horses. These were not all spoils of war, but Turkish accompaniments to Saxon feats of horsemanship and parade displays. An exquisitely embroidered large Turkish pavilion tent. There are astounding ivory pieces, jewelry, tools, in short, items of the royal closets from 400-500 centuries. A coin collection, a section of engravings ... 1-2 hours is all I can take, and I don't think that included half of what is covered in a basic 12-euro ticket.

Having been destroyed during WWII the castle has been rebuilt remarkably. With the unbelievable Jade Room and the work of the goldsmiths on display you take your time to read what is said about each display. The whole building has so much to offer if you love history. Then onto the old weaponry displays and once again so much to read and learn. The old sculptors on display are not to be missed either. The Residenz is a must see to take your time and really immerse yourself into the amazing museum.

In the heart of Dresden is the Royal Palace, fairly easy to find and with other interesting places nearby.
