Georgenbau, the main section of the Royal Palace sitting on top of the old city gates began reconstruction in the 80s and the entire palace was only completed a decade ago. The Haussman Tower behind it is a complete reconstruction of the original.  Georgenbau has been rebuilt to become the guardian of Dresden’s treasures, with its 5 museums within its complex.
Of course, what people are attracted to most is the Georgentor, the city gates that Georgenbau sits on top of. A pretty arch that’s one of the most important entry into the city of Dresden.

Toward the back of the Schlossplatz, stands this first Renaissance building of the city. A devastating fire ravaged the Palace in 1701 and Augustus the Strong had the exterior reconstructed in the taste at the time. The portal was again destroyed in WW II and rebuilt in the 1960's. The gable is adorned with rich, sculptural ornaments and the portal facing the Elbe River, dating from the Georgian period, represent Adam and Eve mourning Paradise.

The Geogentor or Georgenbau is the Dresden Old City exit to the bridge on River Elbe. It is located on Scholassplatz between the royal palace and the royal stables. It is a Neo Renaissance building built in 1530-1535 during George the bearded's time. On the face of the building you can see an inscription "Providentiae Memor" which means keep Providence in Mind. This was the national slogan of Saxony and part of the Wettiners coat of arms. You can see amazing gargoyles on this beautiful passageway. You can also see some religious themes in this building. On the inner-side you can read the words "Per invidiam Diaboli Mors Intravit In Orbs" meaning through the devil's envy death entered into the world. This gateway way destroyed by the Allied air-raids during WWII and was rebuilt in the 1960's.
