We took the audio guide through the exhibits and it was definitely worth it! There was actually an overwhelming amount of information available as we quickly realized... We went quite slowly through the first rooms with artifacts and exhibits from some of the earliest known settlements in Europe. Everything is really well done and extensive, with lots of additional information on specific topics available in the audio guide if you wish. The museum currently takes you up to the iron age, but the audio guide information is not as extensive later on. Nevertheless, the displays are very well done. Finally, the Nebra sky disc is obviously the highlight and is very beautifully displayed. Definitely worth checking out in Halle.

This museum is a must if you are interest in pre-historical displays and exhibits. I loved loved loved it, especially of course the "star" of the museum, the real Nebra sky disc.

This museum is amazing! Im not normally a fan of pre-history but the exhibitions here are excellent. As well as being visually interesting they provide an easy to follow timeline for the evolution of early man. The Nebra Sky Disc (google it) is an absolute treasure, and the story behind its discovery is really interesting. The "Krieg" special exhibit was very thought provoking; asking deep questions such as whether man is predisposed to warfare, and when did organised battles begin in our history.

Photography is not allowed inside the museum.

The cafe is fantastic! I recommend the strawberry cake (Erdbeer kuchen) and pasties (pastete). Most of the signage in the exhibits is in German, but you can pick up an audioguide for a small fee. The audioguide is detailed, but doesnt drone on and on, which makes a nice change.

Whilst in Halle, we realised by chance that the famous Nebra sky disc is displayed at this museum. It's the world's oldest known concrete depiction of astronomical phenomena, 3600 years old and simply magical. The themes in the rest of the museum are very well displayed, lots of interactive presentations.

Tour starts on highest floor level. Excellent representation of prehistorical artifacts including a special exhibition of the war theme through former times with concentration on impacts and first show downs of murder within human race. Earphones with guided tours in many languages available.
After all that is a stop over at the museums own coffee shop recommended, as they have great homemade style German sweets.
Will revisit for sure.
Remember to carry enough cash with you, as they unfortunately do not accept debit or credit cards at the entrance of the museum. Funny as at the same time are first intentions to abolish cash within the European Community.
