We missed visiting the Alhambra in '96 because we were getting ready for the Dakar Rally and ran short on time. So, this time we decided to do it right and stay nearby. Extremely comfortable and clean rooms, relentlessly helpful staff and an wayback-machine ambiance. Kind of olden-day, grand hotel. It is only a few minutes walk to the Alhambra - and no big uphill trudge.

So where do we start?
Pros-
Amazing views.
Nice bar staff.
Beautiful Reception.
Cons -

Where do we start!
On arrival at the hotel we were offered no help with our luggage. When checking in we were asked to pay for our 4 nights in advance ( very unusual). We were told where the lifts were and struggled with our luggage to the 3rd floor. Landing was impressive, however on entering the room we were very disappointed with it. Ok we expected small rooms for such an old building, but there was cheap laminate flooring, two single beds that were like sleeping in concrete. The mini bar was empty , no menus to advise if we could have room service . Mix match of hangers and overall no way 5*. Bathroom was beautiful in fairness. We decided to go to have some lunch in which we sat on the famous terrace. The views were stunning. Drinks were nice but our hot selections were served barely warm. We decided to go meet our daughter and on the way out asked if there was any chance of switching out room to one with city views ( hotel was not busy, I had checked ) and were told yes there are rooms but it will cost you 50 euro + per night . I thought that was awful attitude considering the hotel was not in anyway full. We decided to not spend the money and go visit beautiful Granada. What a place , stunning , people so friendly. Our daughter gave us a present of a bottle of wine so on return I went to the bar and asked for 2 glasses and an ice bucket. I was given this with no issues but when I asked for a corkscrew was told they only had one , I nearly laughed out loud. I have to "borrow" and return same . Facilities in the room are shocking, phone looked like something from an 80s office, very retro indeed .Following morning we decided to try breakfast. Self service in a very dramatic old worl room, selection was great but again all the hot food was nearly cold. For 24 euros per head I would expect better. The bar staff are very attentive but reception needs a huge upgrade in training and general manners. Found them very rude and will offer little or no assistance. No consierge service . Can't get taxis when we asked. Most 5* hotels go out of their way to offer a service . We understand with the age of the building there will be no pool , SPA but really I'd love to find out how it still has 5* rating. I could add more abd more but this is not a witch hunt but an honest review on how disappointed we were with this hotel . 10/10 for the views as for the rest , spend some money and get this building and facilities to 5* not 3*

Thank you for your comprehensive and detailed review, which we regret. We appreciate your positive comments about our views, friendly staff and beautiful reception.

Regarding your many negative comments, which again we regret, I think it is also a matter of some misunderstandings, as they are not very common. Our luggage service may have been busy upon arrival, although we regret not having offered it to you. In your room you have a QR code with all services, including an extensive room service menu. We do not have minibars, only fridges with complimentary mineral water, as well as Nespresso and boiled water, coffee and infusions. Our floors are wood, carpet or marble depending on the chosen room. Our hotel was refurbished and requalified to 5-star category in October 2017, so it complies with all current regulations. Of the rest of the services, we take note of your remarks, although fortunately this is not the opinion of hundreds of customers who have also written reviews on Tripadvisor. By the way, paying on arrival is common in 90% of the hotels in the world.

Thank you again for your opinion and best regards.

We stayed for 5 days in November in unexpectedly warm and clear weather and had a large corner room overlooking Granada. We had several meals on the terrace. I rarely write reviews but I feel obliged to say something about this outstanding property. This hotel has, in addition to its excellent location, the design, luxury, ambiance and finesse of a bygone and grand era. We found every aspect our stay Including the room, the staff, the food (especially the breakfast buffet) excellent. Nothing is perfect but some things are great and this hotel in my opinion is great.

5 star facilities - absolutely not! Great and friendly staff but the hotel is very understaffed. When you have a nightcap and the same person serves you breakfast like a vampire you know they have a problem. We had to take out own luggage to the room which shows a lack of bellhops. We have a superior deluxe room or rather something that looked like you were in a Swiss clinic waiting to go to the operating theatre to have a face lift. Super white, super bright flourescent lights and a bathroom complex that seemed to be hanging from the ceiling with one sliding wall not working. And yes who uses a bidet today and that was also in the recent design. Furniture fitout appeared MDF Ikea style. No spa, gym or swimming pool so why the five stars my friends? We;; there is the terrace and at 3 metres depth and pretty shabby is not going to blow your mind, that is if you can get a seat - we never failed but there again the wind was blowing big time. At 450 Euros a night it seemed a tad overpriced. Great reception rooms and staff but that did not justify the bill. So why was it fully booked with our American cousins - location, building design and possibly just the name. If your visit is only the Alhambra historic complex and you do not need facilities and like burning money then fine but if you want to slip into Granada city down a steep walk then stay there instead - you still have to climb the hill but only to one destination whereas the town offers so much more on so many levels.

Thank you for your review and for your positive feedback about our location and friendliness of our staff.
We regret your impression about the lack of staff. We have the necessary staff, although we also understand that staff must be multi-skilled and be able to assist in different tasks.
We regret your feedback about your room and decor. These rooms were refurbished in 2017 and are e contemporary and minimalist in style. For your next visit, we can also offer you our classic rooms and junior suites, both with traditional neo-Nazari decoration.
We send you our best regards

Absolutely breathtaking views! My husband and I stayed here and couldn’t be happier with the rooms, service, and location. We enjoyed our breakfast and lunch on the terrace every day, surrounded by the gorgeous views and weather! We 100% would stay here again when we return to visit!

Room tip: Finding an Uber to get around in can be a little flaky, ask the front desk to call a cab for you.
