Description: La Salgar is the urban restaurant of the Manzano Family managed by Chef Esther Manzano (1 Michelin Star and 1 Sol Repsol). The restaurant is located in the vibrant city of Gijon and it has views to the picturesque Museum of the Region of Asturias. The cuisine of Esther and Nacho Manzano is all about roots, respect and tradition, the importance of the products and recipes and it is also about the developing, evolving, being creative and bringing this products or recipes a lot further. The way of cooking is traditional, fresh and contemporary, thinking in the local product, trustworthy producers and the classical and sometimes forgotten recipes of the region. But they go further and in this kitchen they dream and experiment evolving these recipes and produces in something different, with different methods, techniques and combinations of flavours.

Relaxing ambience, good music selection, and plenty of natural light. Service was exceptional. The plates came out at a good pace and were very artistic and original in their appearance. A lot of wood log plates. The wine pairing was very unique at some points offering a nutty brown beer to accompany a plate of endives with orange foam, hazelnuts, arugula paste on top of a thyme broth. Also a pure apple juice was accompanied with one of the desert courses which paired perfectly. The menu was delicious and bold. The main course of duck breast and slow-cooked duck leg had a sea urchin sauce complimenting it! I would never think that combination would work, but it did and it was delicious! Kudos to Jaime, one of the servers, who spoke English and explained all the dishes beautifully.

I would definitely return to this restaurant the next time I visit Gijon. Highly recommended!

Great service, good food and nice environment! I ordered rabo de toro and did not like fighting with the bone but the tastes were good!

One of the best restaurants in town, but their wine prices are a little too high of you compare them with similar restaurants

Perfection as always. Esther the sister is the drive behind this but Nacho is very much with her in the creativity process. The result is sublime - I cannot say there is one dish I didn't like. Obviously if you have not tried the famous rice with pitu then it's a must but the rest - just let yourself go as it's not possible to go wrong. A great dining room with a calming feel adds to the overall experience. Cannot recommend enough!!
