Great fabada, this is the place to go if you want to enjoy this excellent Asturias staple. Fabada will come as part of a menu, so be warned that if you stuff yourself with it as a starter, then you'll still have to deal with the excellent main course. We chose carne a la piedra, where you cook yourself your filets on a portable grill.

You'll need a car to get to this restaurant but it is definitely worth it. It has plenty of room inside or you can sit outside on the terraza.

Excellent service, attentive staff.

This restaurant is 8 or 9 kms out of Oviedo to the South West, just outside a village called Las Caldos (hot Springs) where there is a large spa complex.

This is family run bar and restaurant in a tiny Hamlet, you can easily miss the Restaurant - it is bright blue - this may help!

It is set on a hillside with a great view over the river valley below. There is a large terrace and a small bar area, once you go inside there is a friendly welcome, and your are shown through to a large dining room, along with a semi outdoor and a further outdoor terrace dining area.

They generally have a set menu, including a veggie/vegan option, as well as an a la carte menu. For 22 Euro you have a choice of three starters, three mains, and five or six deserts. We had the choice of:
Fabada (local bean stew similar to Cassoulet) , Octopus and prawn Carpaccio salad, salted cod pate,
Cook your own steaks on a hot mountain rock, Wild boar casserole, Grilled Fish.

We had the Octopus, Salted Cod, Grilled fish and Wild Boar Casserole. All were great, good portions, - not too big, but lovely fresh ingredients, well prepared and with very friendly and helpful service.

All the puds seemed great, I got the impression that they would change frequently.

So slightly more expensive than some "local" restaurants, but a great experience, good quality food, in an ideal location. We will return.

I am sure this a restaurant will surprise you. The idea was to go to taste the "best fabada of Asturias" with the family; but what we first enjoyed when arrived was the nice atmosphere and the breathtaking views of Asturias' hills. What surprised me were the concepts: allergy suitable menu, choices for vegetarians, slowfood philosophy...is something you do not expect from this type of restaurant.
The food is amazing. We ordered fabada as starter and lamb as main dish and sidra of course. There are no problem with sharing the dishes with the kids or asking for extra half serving for they. In any case the portions are sufficient and appropriate.
Excellent value for money, one of those places where you pay very happy, highly recommended and it worth the effort of leaving the city and visit the beatiful Asturian landscape.
